Cate takes in her newly divorced sister into her home. Maggie convinces Cate to join her as she goes out for a night on the town to meet men. Cate ends up meeting his plastic surgeon, Jeff Blake (Ted McGinley). Jeff and Cate exchange numbers and contine to date. By the season finale, Bridget packs for college (Michigan State University). Maggie finally decides she thinks she will go back to college as well and weirdly enough, ends up to be Bridget's roommate at the dorms. Bridget first complains about having her aunt as her roommate, but Maggie tells her at college she's Maggie, not her aunt and anything that happens there stays there unless its something serious. Bridget ends up liking the idea of Maggie as her roommate. Kerry looks forward to being a senior next year and having her own room for the first time. Kyle decides to take a year off and wait around for Kerry to finish up high school, then rentering college as a freshman with Kerry. Rory and Missy decide to have sex for the first time, but ends up being too nervous and both decides to wait a little bit longer. Cate and Jeff go out to eat, where Jeff pops the questions to Cate. Cate becoming overwhelmed, says yes and is soo happy, and can't wait to share the news to Maggie and the kids (who take it surprisingly well). In the last scene, it's the family taking Maggie and Bridget to their dorm, but Bridget rushes inside the house for something while the rest of the family is waiting outside. Bridget quickly finds the most recent family picture (with Paul in it). Bridget says, "I love you Dad" just before she exits the house.
