Something I don't understand about the episode-Dinner Party - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

If Gurdy Vincent had to eat pet food because times was rough, why couldn't she just eat the 100% ground round meat she used to make the meatloaf for the Evans? It didn't make sense that she would take the only real food in her home and give it to the Evans. Which is why all the Evans were convinced that the meatloaf was petfood. I still wouldn't have eaten it even though she said it was not pet food.LOL

The woman ate the pet food to cut back on expenses...you know, like saving a good suit for a special occasion. It was a special occasion so she used her ground round to cook up a meal for the Evans'. If she ate the ground round, she would've had to make the meatloaf out of her pet food.

My question was is pet food that much cheaper than real meat? She was still spending some amount of money to buy dog food. And if she was living by herself, it wasn't like she had to spend a whole lot on food expenses anyway. Instead of cans of dog food, buy the ground round and stretch that out for the week.

That's a good idea but cans of pet food ran like .29cents a can or maybe less to $2.50 - $4.00 at Borgen's Market. Remember, beef is the most expensive meat. She could have bought chicken but you're looking at a whole week as opposed to one or two days. Food is not the only thing this woman is concerned about.

They were living in the projects in the ghetto, so it would make sense that someone was worse off. The woman was getting Social Security which, back then was around $200 a month or a little more.
