Wink Wilson Phillips Album Trashed by NY Critic - Too Funny!

This is a review of the New Wilson Phillips Album by New York Daily News Music writer Jim Farber, and it's hilarious.
And Lord knows, I love any reviews that trash something.

WILSON PHILLIPS
"California"

Ten years have passed since the three girls in Wilson Phillips last released an album - a time that now seems like a golden era if only for their absence.

Are there any duller singers on the planet?

Is anyone with a recording contract less talented? (Not counting Jessica Simpson, that is.)

On Wilson Phillips' comeback - revenge? - CD, these daughters of important artists like Brian Wilson and John Phillips do a massive disservice to both their genes and to geography.

It's a cover-song collection featuring classics from the state the girls' parents' music came to define.

Many of the best-known warm-weather touchstones turn up, like the Youngbloods' "Get Together," Jackson Browne's "Doctor My Eyes," the Byrds' "Turn Turn Turn," and, inevitably, songs from the family canons, like the Beach Boys' "In My Room" and the Mamas and the Papas' "Monday Monday."

Offensive doesn't begin to describe the result.

The album may be the worst thing to happen to California since the San Francisco earthquake.

You haven't known horror until you've heard the zombiefied Chynna Phillips murmur through Neil Young's "Old Man" or the black hole that is Carnie Wilson trying to emote on "Monday Monday."

Drunken frat girls performing karaoke on a bet would have brought more feeling to the songs. Wilson Phillips' version of Joni Mitchell's "California" should have them brought up on charges.

Recently, Blender issued its Top 50 worst songs ever recorded (headed by Starship's "We Built This City.") If the magazine wants to list the Worst Albums, they've got a first-class candidate for No. 1.

I loved Wilson Phillips when they first came out.

I can't believe they come back after 12 years ONLY to record a covers cd... what's the point?

do you blame her? Wilson Phillips were one of the acts whose career was killed when Nirvana exploded in late 1991.

And for that I'm eternally grateful to Kurt, Kris and Dave. Thanks, guys. We owe you one!

I saw them on GMA Friday and yep. Carnie's been hitting the buffet tables again. During one of her songs she started chewing on the microphone.

She's gained some weight recently, but I think it's just her body adjusting to a "normal" weight, and not necessarily getting fat again.

Isn't that a joke from one of Howard Stern's cronies?

What concern is it of any of you how big Carnie is? As for her hitting the buffet tables again, that would be pretty hard for her to keep that up because if you overeat after having gastric bypass surgery, you end up throwing it back up.

As for her dissing Nirvana, SO WHAT? Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Who ended up shooting himself in the head?
