It's not better than current TV because Cable did not exist in 1973 |

If I were my current age then I guess I would have watched the following:
Saturday 8pm-All in the Family-CBS- 8:30pm-11pm Turn off the set, nothing on I'd want to watch really Sunday 8pm-The FBI-ABC- This was propaganda but was actually kind of interesting to watch 8:30pm-Mannix-CBS- After that turn off the set Monday 8pm-The Rookies-ABC- Since this had Georg Stanford Brown in it this would have caught my attention. Plus Kate Jackson 8:30pm-Diana-NBC- may have sampled this, but never saw it to know it's quality. Diana Rigg is sexy though 9pm-Turn off the set (boy I would have been a well rested and/or well read adult in 1973) Tuesday 8pm-New Temperature Rising-ABC- Cleavon Little was in this so I would sample it. If I hate it switch over to Maude 8pm-Maude-CBS 8:30pm-Bedtime Wednesday 8pm-The Sonny and Cher Hour-CBS- I remember this show! 8pm-Adam-12-NBC- I remember this from primetime too! 8:30pm-WEdnesday Movie of the Week-ABC- depends on the movie 8:30pm-NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie- depends on the movie 10pm-Owen Marshall-ABC- Arthur Hill was a decent actor but this melodrama was boring 10pm-Kojak-CBS- would have watched this sporadically Thursday 8pm-Flip Wilson Show-NBC This was entertaining. I remember watching it in this year when I was 6 9pm-Ironside-NBC 10pm- lights out Friday 8pm-Sanford and Son-NBC 8:30pm-THe Odd Couple-ABC 8:30pm-Roll Out-CBS- Would have sampled this since it had an all black cast 9pm-Room 222-ABC- I like this show 9:30pm-Adams Rib-ABC Think this was a relationship sitcom. Hey the tv's on ABC, so I won't change the channel. How bad could this be? I can multitask while it's on 10pm-Love American Style-ABC- Not a fave but might watch it occasionally One thing to remember about 1973 was that back then people were more prone to stay home on a Fri or Sat night, notice that All in the Family which was the #1 show and Sanford and Son which was #3 were on on the weekends. NOW YOU TELL ME IF THIS WASN"T THE SADDEST YEAR OF TV. I would have UNPLUGGED my TV 4 out of the 7 nights. [/B][/QUOTE] |

I guess less things to do. I was only 6. We would go to Jack-In-the Box or Wetsons (both fast food restaurants) and then go home and go to bed. I suppose teens and young adults went to movies, drive ins that sort of thing. Discos were not a big thing at that point that was a couple years later.

well, I suppose classic tv fans should be grateful there wasn't any good "new sitcoms" in the 1973-1974 lineup, which means some shows got cancelled... which caused Good Times and Happy Days to be added in midseason!

Hmmm...
Saturday 8:00PM: All in the Family (CBS) 8:30PM: Nothing 9:00PM: The Mary Tyler Moore Show (CBS) 9:30PM: The Bob Newhart Show (CBS) 10:00pm: The Carol Burnett Show (CBS) LOL, I guess I would watch just about everything on CBS. (I'm not a M*A*S*H fan though) Sunday Nothing really interets me. Monday 8:00PM: The Rookies (ABC) [or maybe nothing] 9:00PM: Here's Lucy (CBS) 9:30PM: The New Dick Van Dyke Show (CBS) Tuesday 8:00PM: Maude (CBS) 8:30PM: Hawaii Five-O (CBS) Wednesday 8:00PM: The Sonny & Cher Hour Thursday Nothing really interests me. Friday 8:00PM: The Brady Bunch (ABC) or Sanford & Son (CBS) 8:30PM: The Odd Couple (ABC) |

There may have been cable but it was nothing to brag about. It wasn't that many cable channels in 1973. Which is why shows like Gunsmoke stayed on the air. |
