Default Possible Uses For ABC

With ABC on the ropes, its ratings stuck in fourth place (behind FOX!), and a massive amount of cancellations at the end of the 2003-04 season, the obvious question remains - what do we do with the network and its affiliates? It's clear that it can't stay on the air much longer at this rate. Here are some suggestions for how to dispense with ABC:

Liquidate it. Sell its stations and and give its affliates to other networks. Have a fire sale.

Turn it into the Homeland Security Channel - give it to the DHS so Tom Ridge can have a soapbox and show off his utterly useless color chart for terror alerts!

Turn it into a home shopping channel - it's the only way ABC can make any money these days.

Make it into a broadcast Disney Channel - use to it show movies Disney bankrolled between 1966 and 1989. Tron, anyone?

Convert it into a BBC-style network - the American Broadcasting Corporation. You wouldn't have to change the initials! Disney can sell it to the government, who can hire people to operate it and produce noncommerical shows. Nah, this will never happen!

Show dead air. It can't be any worse than "It's All Relative!"

I'm sorry - ABC canceled "I'm With Her," and this is my only way of getting back at the bastards!

I am still shocked ABC cancelled I'm With Her and It's All Relative, they were scoring in the 30's in the ratings, right? This same network kept renewing George Lopez for seasons before it finally caught on. What's the difference except that Sandra Bullock was behind The George Lopez Show?

I don't know about "It's All Relative," but I have a sneaky suspicion that "I'm With Her" was canceled because it poked fun at Hollywood phoniness and Hollywood bigwigs have no sense of humor - they probably made ABC axe it! Similarly, I think NBC canceled "Whoppi" because of the show's Bush-bashing.

I think Whoopi was cancelled due to low ratings. It was getting ok ratings at best, but was frequently in 3rd or 4th place, which isn't "good". I doubt Bush-bashing had to do it, but that could have turned viewers off.

ABC should just show classic episodes of their soaps in primetime 7 days a week. But sadly that'll never happen. I can dream cant I?

No it was all about ratings.

ABC has the best current comedies, IMO.
But they'll have some competition from CBS this fall.

I doubt they will do anything like that to ABC. When back in the early 80's and late 70's NBC was placing 3rd of 3 there was no such idea. And they eventualy did find ratings success again thanks to the Cosby Show.

ABC has always had problems. they have never had an era where they ruled the airwaves. CBS ruled the '70s and NBC ruled the '80s. ABC may be the first network to fall since DUM in the '50s.

ABC was #1 from 1976-1979 and a very strong #2 from 1980-1984. Disney destroyed this network. I don't think they've been this bad since the early 1950's.
