Default I Love Lucy is hardly on tv anymore!!!

Has anyone else noticed that the days of Lucy marathones, back to back episodes, and primetime tvland spots are long gone? I never see Lucy anywhere but on tvland, and they change the timeslot every two weeks, so I hardly ever know when it is on. And half the nights it is pre-empted for some tv movie or whatever. I am just really concerned that I Love Lucy is losing respect and losing viewers. What is going on? Is the show finally showing its age and people are opting for "fresher" sitcoms?

I don't think it's that at all, otherwise there wouldn't be such a broad market for the items, I just think since the release of the DVD's and most fans having the show on tape, I guess they just figure people will watch it on their own time. Most people have lives nobody sits around and watches TV all day, well most people don't anyways, most people I would assume have jobs or hobbies, and other priorities. I know I do. If I am home, once and a while if there is something good on I will watch TV, if there isn't anything good on I will watch a tape. That isn't very often though. Many of these shows that they have on the air aren't available on DVD or VHS, probably because they aren't as in demand for other shows such as Roseanne and Full House or Wings.

As for Fresher Sitcoms, Friends is on DVD and VHS and I am sure as the demand for their DVD's or merchandise rises in the future, I am sure they as I love Lucy did will slowly slip from regular syndication.

It's been on either Nick or TV Land solid for 10 years. In reality, very few shows last that long. IMO, it needs a rest. Wanna show Lucy? Show TLS or HL. Fresh stuff.

TV Land is just going through a survival mode these days. They have become slaves to the ratings and only the top 5 shows get any respect. They'll take those top shows and just play them to death.

I don't think for one minute that Lucy has lost its viewing fanbase. That show has had awesome syndication ratings for years. Why would the viewing public just suddenly stop finding that show appealing within the last year or so. That doesn't make sense! It's these damn networks struggling for survival in a new world of DVD's, Pay-Per-View, On-Demand, and the Internet! Let's face it, TV in general, has lost alot of viewers. And because classic networks like Nick-At-Nite and TV Land have completely pissed off the Baby Boomer population (as well as countless younger people who love classics too), they are left with a very small fickle viewing audience. They therefore must resort to cheap tactics to get any kind of ratings or they're out!

I, for one, will always love 'I Love Lucy". And I know others surely still do.

I would have to disagree. Did you know that TBS ran The Andy Griffith Show for about 20 years straight before ending up on TV Land? And TV Land has been airing that show for about five years. If The Andy Griffith Show can air for 25 consecutive years, then I don't why I Love Lucy can't. I Love Lucy is just as much of a classic as The Andy Griffith Show if not more.

I agree on this point here. Her later shows definitely need to be aired.

No offense, but how can you say that the Andy Griffith Show is a classic and I Love Lucy might be more of a classic? Isn't it just common knowledge that I Love Lucy is the end all be all when it comes to classic sitcoms??? I am not some Lucy freak by any means, but I think everyone loves ILL to some degree, but I can't say that about the Andy show. There is just no comparrison to ILL and as far as I'm concerned no other sitcom will ever match Lucy's popularity. I'm not trying to be nasty, but your post bothered me because I would say it is a fact that ILL is the classic sitcom.

I totally agree. I have always felt that I Love Lucy was, is, and will forever be #1 classic television sitcom of All-Time. The show is just too great to not be the #1.

Isn't I Love Lucy still aired on local TV in a few places? My neighbor just got back from LA and she says that one of their local stations still airs ILL.

If so, of course thats great if you live in Southern California, but not so great if you live in a city where the oldest sitcom they air is Roseanne.

I Love Lucy is hardly on TV Land anymore. Maybe Lifetime will pick it up, thats seems like a good place for it.

Yeah, it needs more time-slots. It seems now Green Acres has taken over TV Land, even though I Love Lucy has been gettin poor treatment for awhile now. Thankfully it airs two times a day on a local station here.

It's not that nobody wants to watch it any more. It's those stupid time slots! I miss the I Love Lucy show at night. I wish they'd put it back on. Who wants to see all of those 80s sitcoms anyway.

Even though ILL has a bad timeslot, I dun't wun't it to leave TV Land. Because it needs to stay there with the other shows. TVL does specials sometimes, and if ILL is gone, they won't be included.

I agree they show LITB, and TAGs alot too.... but what are you gonna do? At least ILL will be put on to dvd. Thank god. I miss them showing Happy Days too.. I am sure if they didnt play two episodes of each show back to back, that they could fit different shows in. But, thats just my opinion lol.
