Default 5/10:Part I: Season Finale-I missed it

I missed last Monday's 5/10/04's episode which was part 1 of the season finale. Can someone please fill me in with details? I saw last night's episode which was part II, but I really want to know about part I. Thanks.

From TV Tome:

It's evening at the Camden house, and Martin and Cecilia are making out on the couch. They are spotted by Ruthie and Peter who wonder if this is "homework," followed by Eric. Eric interrupts Martin and Cecilia, while Ruthie and Peter head upstairs for their "homework." As they head for the attic, Peter asks his girlfriend if she'll tell her parents about what she did at school that day. She promises she will; then when he asks her if they'll get carried away like the two downstairs, Ruthie points out she gets straight "A's."

Carlos, Mary's husband, calls Annie and tells her not to come to New York for the birth of his and Mary's child -- at Mary's insistence. Annie seems miffed, wanting both her and Eric to be there for the birth of their first grandchild. Carlos promises he will have Mary call her parents as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Chandler has been suckered by Jeffrey into doing his homework for him; and Lucy wonders why Roxanne won't hang out with her on their regular pizza night -- the third straight time she's blown off her friend.

Matt and Sarah have apparently reconciled, and have returned from a trip together. He wonders why, though, she's retaking a course she passed rather than spend the summer in California with him. His wife reminds him she barely passed that course, and in any case she needs more practicum at the hospital. She tells her husband to go back home alone. He agrees, but tells her he thinks it's a mistake to do so.

The next morning, the twins are helping Annie wash the dishes. Eric is in a rush out the door for a budget meeting. Ruthie tells them she had something to tell them the previous night, but she figures it's not really important and it can wait. As Ruthie runs out, Eric tells his wife he thinks Cecilia and Martin may be having sex or are about ready to. Lucy, meanwhile, is told by Kevin to leave Roxanne alone -- if she had a reason not to spend time with Lucy, she might have had a good reason, but he doesn't know what it is either and doesn't care. At the church, Roxanne thanks Chandler for a decision she's made, and heads out of the office when Eric steps in. She assures Eric it was strictly a professional call and leaves. Chandler says that he's up in arms with Jeffrey and his homework, and needs a tutor. Eric says he knows someone who may be right for him, and picks up the phone.

At school, Mac tells Martin that he and Pam have had a good relationship in such a short period of time that he thinks they're ready to have sex -- as early as that night. He at first presumes that Martin and Cecilia have gone all the way. In fact, the school gossip is that since she is two years old than him, they already have; but Mac is surprised to learn from Martin that he and Cecilia aren't.

Carlos gets a phone call. Mary's at a hospital, presumably in labor. He rushes out the door of their apartment. Meanwhile, Matt boards a plane and is surprised to see Heather has been assigned to the seat next to his. The plane is delayed for takeoff due to mechanical problems. So the two strike up a conversation. Matt tells his old flame that he likes being married. Apparently, so does she. Carlos arrives at the hospital where Sarah works. She's surprised to see him. He's in a state of panic, however, because he's looked all over the hospital and can't find Mary. It was a false alarm and she wasn't in labor, but he wonders why she didn't wait for him to pick her up and go home.

Captain Michaels tells Roxanne to tell Kevin as soon as she knows the results of a test she's taking, and wishes her luck. Meanwhile, Mac tells Martin he's told the other guys that Martin is not having sex. Martin's furious. Lucy finds out from another cop that Roxanne is most likely taking the test for promotion to detective. Peter asks Ruthie if she's told her parents about what she was supposed to tell them. She says she still hasn't.

Cecilia finds Martin. When Martin tells him about what's been going on with him and Mac that day, she's angry and shocked that Martin ever talked about something so personal with him in the first place. Chandler meets the potential tutor, a young woman named Kendall, at the pool hall. She complains that he's late for his appointment, thinks Eric must have had a sick sense of humor to set her up on a blind date, and leaves.

Annie answers the door, and finds Ruthie's Spanish-language teacher, along with a young girl named Maria. She's a foreign exchange student from Mexico City. Annie is stunned when the teacher thanks them for agreeing to take Maria in for an extended period -- presuming that Ruthie has already asked them for permission -- and is handed by the teacher a handful of papers to sign. Chandler returns to church. He is stunned when Eric tells him that Kendall is for real; she's a 5.0 GPA and a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship. On the flight over to California, Matt admits to Heather that his marriage isn't working well, in fact he and Sarah just recently reconciled. She admits she lied too; she and her husband had divorced three months ago and she's returning to Glen Oak to start over again.

Annie and Eric confront Ruthie about the exchange student. Ruthie tells them that the family hosting Maria got caught up in a "family emergency" that required them to go back East for an extended period and Maria would be forced to go home unless she could get another host family. The teacher asked if there was any volunteers. No one was raising their hands, so finally, Ruthie raised hers; thinking that since they've had all sorts of people stay with them before, Annie and Eric wouldn't mind this time. The parents reply they aren't upset but wish they were consulted first. Ruthie then says that she's already making plans to go to Mexico the next year to work on her Spanish.

Carlos, meantime, has found where his wife was, but she promptly left. Sarah can't understand why he's so upset. Eric, meantime, tries to talk to Martin about his "urges." Martin politely reminds his host he knows the birds and the bees, then asks him if he had the same kinds of feelings in high school -- or even if he went "all the way." Eric only replies that he gets Martin's point. Chandler tracks down Kendall at the Promenade. She reminds him that California has anti-stalking laws. He tries to apologize, but she calls him a pompous jerk. When he explains what his situation is, she agrees to tutor Jeffrey for $20 an hour.

Lucy tells Kevin she can't understand why he wouldn't want to try to go for detective, given he's been a cop longer than Roxanne. He reminds Lucy that he and Roxie have been cops in Glen Oak the same amount of time, he prefers working the beat than hard investigating, and in any case he and Lucy don't need the extra money that comes with the promotion but Roxanne probably does. Pam corrals Cecilia, and says they need to talk about what's been going on that day. The plane carrying Matt and Heather arrives in LA, but can't reach its gate due to a "traffic jam." Matt offers to have dinner with Heather that night, as friends, and she agrees.

Later, Matt arrives home. The house seems deserted except for Eric who welcomes his son back. Annie's been preparing turkey with the trimmings as a homecoming present, but Matt tells his father he's having a friendly dinner with Heather. Eric wonders if he should call Sarah to let him know that. Matt only shrugs. Maria finds Peter up in Ruthie's attic bedroom. He's been waiting for Ruthie so they can start their math homework. Maria wants him to help her with math, but he thinks she's trying to make a pass at him, and quickly points out that he's getting help from Ruthie. Ruthie finds both of them, says she thinks it's a good idea they can all be friends, and takes Maria down for dinner with the family. Peter follows the girls, a little annoyed.

Lucy and Kevin continue to give each other the silent treatment. Finally, he gets fed up, says he doesn't want to talk about Roxanne and her job, and leaves. Annie comes home with fresh vegetables -- apparently Matt's favorite -- but learns Matt has already left. Mac and Martin, meantime, head out the door, to "have sex with Cecilia." Heather arrives at the Promenade, late. She tells Matt she didn't want to come at first because they both know this was more than just a social call. At the Camdens, Annie's finishing up dinner when the phone rings. Peter offers to answer it. The woman calling asks for Matt. Peter tells her that Matt's gone out for dinner with Heather, and then quickly learns the person at the other end is Sarah, Matt's wife. When he tells the rest of the group who it is, there's dead silence.

Pam and Cecilia show up at the Promenade to meet Mac and Martin. They're furious with both their boyfriends: Pam, because Mac told her that Martin and Cecilia were having sex so Mac could seduce her; and Cecilia, because he even talked to other people at school about their personal lives, intimate or otherwise. Both boyfriends are dumped, and as the women storm off. Mac admits to Martin he made the whole story up. Martin is angry, and he walks away.

Meanwhile, Kendall tell Chandler that she's quickly figured out Jeffrey's problem. It's not that hey isn't paying attention, he's just bored with school because he's gifted. She offers her help to get Jeffrey either into a boarding school or the gifted track at the regular school. Very grateful, Chandler offers her dinner. She politely declines, saying she's already got a date -- who arrives at that very moment.

Simon, meantime, calls Cecilia. Not realizing that she and Martin have just broken up, he tells her he's coming home for the summer and is perfectly okay sharing space with Martin, is okay if the two are still dating, and he wants to get to know the houseguest better. Carlos, back in his apartment, is in a real state of panic now. Having made repeated phone calls, he finally tracks down Mary's location. As soon as he hangs up, he calls 911 and tells the dispatcher his wife is in labor. TO BE CONTINUED ...
