Post Darlene fades to black

How is it that Darlene changes so oddly. What I mean in seasons 1-3 she seemed like life was fun and then seasons 4-9 she seems sad and hates life. I dont know but when I was 14 I thought my life was not pleasent but that didn't make me change. Is there anyone who liked the "new" Darlene? Just wondering.

(My favorite quotes)

Crystal: How do you like your marshmallows, Roseanne?
Roseanne: Like my men, crispy on the outside and stuck to the end of a fork

Becky: No one could eat this crud.
Dan: Hey, if you don't finish your crud, you're not gonna get any crap for dessert.

Dan: [to D.J] Eating cardboard can ruin your life. You could end up in the street living in a box. Then you'll eat the box, and you'll be homeless.

well physically, I thought she was much more attractive once she got out of her tomboy phase.

but i didn't like her negativity. even in season 9 after having a baby she still seemed like a very dull character

well, at this time in the series, Roseanne Barr was starting to make the plots/characters more like the people in her real life and perhaps her actual daughter that is supposed to be Darlene went through this and stayed in it, so she had it happen to "Darlene".

I liked Darlene most when she stopped being a tomboy. Roseanne seemed to stop giving her a hard time for apparently being so "dumb".

I liked Darlene better when she was still a tomboy. She became kind of boring when she became all dark and depressed.

I can't agree here. But maybe only because I identified MORE with Darlene when she became more introverted and depressed. At that age I went through the same thing. Yes, I even wore all black, lol! I was always as sarcastic (still am), and pessimistic as Darlene too. I also was, and still am, the eternal tomboy. The only way Darlene differed from me was the art thing. But then again, maybe not... I also spent alot of time writing as a teen....

I agree, same here. Out of all the charcters on Roseanne, I connected most with Darlene. We're very much the same.

I liked the way her character changed I think it made her character more funny. And I think the changing of Darlene is kind of realistic because if you ask some parents they will say that they feel there kids just changed overnight. It does happen in some parents opinions.

I guess I just relate more to tomboy Darlene. Im a tomboy myself. I did go through a depressed phase but I never became the dressed in black beatnik type.

I liked the second (season 4-9) attitude of Darlene than the tomboy Darlene

I don't like the sudden Darlene change. I'm in the minority, but she is no longer funny. During the second half of season three, we can see Darlene and Becky hanging out more and more and even Darlene getting advice from Becky (the episode with Barry for the dance). It seemed like Darlene and Becky were starting to have a bit of the same interests (not completely but somewhat).
