Red face U.S. athletes told to "cool it" at the Olympics

U.S. athletes told to cool it at Olympics

By Simon Hart
LONDON SUNDAY TELEGRAPH

NEW YORK — American athletes have been warned not to wave the U.S. flag during their medal celebrations at this summer's Olympic Games in Athens, for fear of provoking crowd hostility and harming the country's already-battered public image. The spectacle of victorious athletes grabbing a national flag and parading it around the stadium is a familiar part of international sporting competition, but U.S. Olympic officials have ordered their 550-strong team to exercise restraint and avoid any jingoistic behavior.

What a load of nonsense.

If they can't celebrate they might as well stay home.

The United States is the leader of the world economically, politically and militarilly.

That will remain the same whether the US flag is waved or not.

That is what the Olympics are all about. Country pride for their athletes. It is discrimination that we are the only ones not allowed to wave our flag and celebrate.

Perhaps we should tell the Olympic committee that we are going to "cool it" with our money and our athletes.

I agree about that article being nonsense. We may not do everything right over here and other countries may not agree with us but we should still be able to take pride in our country.

Oh jesus. People need to chill out. If people are that worried about America's "image" then why are we even in the olympics?

That's exactly what I mean. This article is true BTW, I had saw it on Fox News last night and then found the story.
