Thumbs down TV Land: DOOMED from the Start!

I have made a conclusion:

Once I Love Lucy debuted on TV Land, the fate of The Lucy Show being on the network was DOOMED. Here's why: according to TheLink over in the TV Land message boards, he has said that The Lucy Show appeals only to audience of I Love Lucy which means that The Lucy Show serves no purpose of airing on TV Land. He also stated that it has been that in the past.

If that's true as he claims, then why did Nick-At-Nite even bother airing I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show simultaneously in the early to mid 1990's? I just don't get it.

Another thing I don't fully understand is that The Lucy Show never appeared regularly on TV Land before I Love Lucy was even on there. In fact, The Lucy Show left Nick at Nite when just about TV Land was started: April of 1996. That would mean TV Land could have picked up The Lucy Show since it was "eligible" (in terms of 'Lucy' speaking) during that period of time. Unfortunitely, that never happened. And since the "belief" that The Lucy Show attracts only the audience of I Love Lucy only ensures that TLS will never appear regularly on TV Land, EVER.

It's one sad situation for us The Lucy Show fans!

There's an interesting easter egg on season 4 of the Dick Van Dyke Show DVD. Season 4 easter eggs include Dick Van Dyke doing some commercials for Nick at Nite, and the text of one of them reads as follows:

Quote:
I'm happy to say welcome home Lucy. The Lucy Show's where it belongs, on Nick at Nite. How's that for preserving our television heritage?
I guess their feelings have since changed

Default TVLAND and Lucy

To tell you the truth, I do like The Lucy Show. I have two sets of VHS tapes I bought at Media Play. What got me started on The Lucy Show was actually finding it on a local cable station, Cox3 in CT in 2001 and 2002 either at 1pm or 10am. In 2002 I believe, Cox3 gave up rights to the show because their wasn't enough episodes to allow them to continue it. Plus, Cox3 did not specialize in Sitcoms. Anyway, I do agree with you about TVLAND. They consistently put shows on and then take them off. I liked "Petticoat Junction" and they took it off in 2000 after airing it at 5AM for a year. I'm predicting that "The Munsters" will be off soon as well, especially due to its short run. Now, all they air is these original specials, which are BORING. I don't want to see interviews. I want to see the old shows. They need to get a clue.

I have not seen the Lucy Show since it went off Tvland back in 1995 or 1996... it did air on a local channel for about a year or so and has dissappeared i have not seen it on tv in quite some time. I prefered the Lucy Show over I Love Lucy simply because i thought it was the funnier out of the two series. My favorite episode of the Lucy Show was "Lucy and Viv Put in a Shower" When lucy and Vivian are swimming in the shower, i have not seen that episode in a long time but it was my favorite. I do agree with tvland i think it's moved from the more classic tv shows, such as the donna reed show, adam-12, kojak, cannon, emergency, that girl... to a more modern tv classic channel. I do not watch it much because most of the shows on there are so bad now... and the skip episodes for weekend marathons, they shrink bank closing credits and use annoying icons to scroll across the screen advertising for things... tvland has gone down hill i would say in the last 4 years.

Wow, those were the good old days! I remember when Dick Van Dyke was considered the "honorary chairman" of Nick at night. And I remember when Dr. Will Miller did the analysis of Lucy, and why we watch her on "the Lucy show" he was Nick at night TV Dr. period I just loved it!

That was the network that introduced me to classic TV. I really miss it. Because it made classic TV entertaining to different generations, with the catchy jingles, wonderful promos, etc. It was never boring, even if the TV shows that they played for corny. The network gave new life to old TV shows, by creating funny little commercials, giving them new personality for the modern day.

The biggest television mistake that's ever been made happened in 1996, when Nick at night started phasing out its older programming, like the Lucy show. Because with that came an ending to all the classic promos they had, etc. I think they did this, because they figured that most of the old stuff could appear on their new network, TV land. But we see how long that lasted… Sigh…

TV land aside, Nick at night should of stayed the way it was, from 1985 to 1996 – they should of never changed from that period of time. The same with their daytime programming, Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon was the best children's network that ever existed, back from 1985 all the way to 1995. After that, it was all downhill from there.

But, that was 10 whole years of programming for both subnetworks. So it seems like, for those of us who missed it and love it, that 10 years of programming could be recycled – commercials and all. We could take a trip back to the early 90s, just by recycling that network in their commercials. I see no reason why it couldn't happen. Anyone agree?

I fully agree!! I was in school during the daytime in the 90s so I'd like to see some classic commercials and just some classic, old segments from Nick AT Nite etc.
