Default Caroline Rhea

one thing I find funny is that Rosie O'Donnell and now Ellen have both struck gold doing daytime talk shows that rely on entertainment and humor.... yet in between the time Rosie's show ended and Ellen's began, Caroline Rhea, who like Ellen and Rosie was also a comedienne who had some work in TV behind her, gave a talk show a shot... and where Rosie and Ellen were out of the box smashes, Caroline's was a bomb and was relogated to 4 AM slots all over the nation.

What was it about Caroline that just couldn't catch on, and also why her show couldn't attract any good guests while Rosie and Ellen have been able to book all of the A-list.

I saw Caroline's show a few times and didn't like her much, but I find it funny she did the same structure of a talk show that Rosie and Ellen struck gold with, and yet her show stiffed.

Cool

I think the only problem with Caroline Rhea is that she is not Rosie O'Donnell. Caroline had the distinction of taking over Rosie's timeslot, Rosie's studio space, and if I'm not mistaken, much of the same crew. As a result many viewers, wether consiously or unconsiously compared Caroline and her show to Rosie and her show. Because Caroline was not Rosie many viewers chose to stop watching. I think some viewers where still upset at Rosie leaving or were going through Rosie withdrawal and took it out on poor Caroline. It's too bad viewers couldn't have judged Caroline on Her own merits rather than comparing her to her predecessor. In my opinion, Caroline did a great job as a host and she certainly came across as being more genuine than Rosie O'Donnell ever did. In short Caroline's problem was that she was in the wrong place(Rosie's shadow) at the wrong time(just after Rosie"left the building") The irony, at least in my opinion is that Caroline's was actually the better show, and that talent wise Rosie is very much in Caroline's shadow. Of course I may be a little biased as Caroline is a fellow Canadian!!!!!!

As for your question about a-list guests not appearing on Caroline's show I think it has a lot to do with following in Rosie's footsteps. Many A listers had been regular guests on Rosies show and may have felt awkward about appearing on the show that took over its timeslot. They may have thought it would make them appear disloyal to Rosie . Or they may have felt strange about being in Rosie's studio with a different host. I think, given time, Caroline's show could have overcme these early obstacles and enticed many of the A-listers to come on the show. Unfortunately the on thing new shows are rarely given these days is time.

Everytime I watched Caroline, she seemed to have a bunch of reality show guests. I can kind of care less about the night before's "Bachelor" evictee.

Don't get me wrong- Caroline's show was really cool (I think I have 2 episodes on tape), but the chemistry wasn't right. Perhaps if she had done a revamp of everything on her show (different crew, etc), she would have had better ratings on her show. I liked the stuff she did...but yeah, you know. It just wasn't there.

I was an avid Rosie O'Donnell watcher and miss her show a lot.

Rosie was bad.
Caroline was worse.

Ellen is gold.

I think its because Rosie's audience shifted to Wayne Brady (as opposed to Caroline Rhea).... and then eventually shifted to Ellen.

Which left both Caroline and Wayne in the gutter (although Wayne Brady did well with critics)
