I couldn't understand that part at all. Why light up as soon as dinner is being served?

Believe it or not, back in the day a lot of people would light up during the meal and smoke while eating. Strange but true.

It was very common, but I do not understand why, since I am a former smoker, and smoking kills your appetite...
