Sad Some of my co-"workers" really drive me nuts!

As I'm sure everyone here knows, I work at the local supermarket as a cashier. When it isn't rude, inconsiderate, unreasonable customers driving me up the wall, it's some of my co-"workers". (I use the word "worker" very loosely. These kids don't do squat!) I usually work on evenings and weekends and most of the people I work with are high school age. (There are a few college students and older people there too.) Many of the high school kids apparently think their job is to socialize with each other and their friends. Heaven forbid they should actually have to do something or help a customer. I swear, I don't know HOW these kids haven't been fired yet!

The check-out supervisors are no better either. They are what my uncle calls 'true supervisors'. They love telling other people what to do and how to do it, but they don't get off their butts to do any work themselves. A couple of them even stick me and this other girl, Alyssa, with most of the work because we're supposedly the best evening cashiers and they don't want to be bothered arguing with the other checkout employees.

I hope I find a new job soon. While I've always believed in taking pride in my work, between rude customers and inept co-workers, I'm really going crazy.

Hope you find a new job soon. You wouldn't want to blow your top like Joe did in the Wings episode "Joe Blows" would you?

Hmmm, I don't know. Running off to a tropical paradise does sound very appealing right now

U aren't the only one who has problems with their co workers. I've had plenty of jobs where i've worked around a lot of ignorant blacks & i can't stand working around people like that. People who ask u personal questions that ain't none of their business like do u have sex regularly, u got a girlfriend, u go to the clubs a lot & if i was to say no to all those questions, i would get laughed at so i tell them none of your business or i lie & say yes to those questions just so they'll leave me the hell alone. Black people are so nosy. They're good for asking a lot of questions. I haven't really dealt with white employees that ask a lot of questions about your personal life. I like working around people who just do their damn job & don't talk that much. I notice that foreigners don't talk that much when they're working & that's a good thing. I used to work at Walmart around a lot of foreigners.

I know what you're going through Kristen. I just got into it with a girl at my work today and we both ended up getting sent home early. This girl has the biggest mouth on the planet, barely out of HS and thinks she knows everything. She spends more time chatting and goofing off than on her work. I finally had it with her and told her off which I rarely ever do.

Kristen, when I was in college I worked part time at Target and I went through many of the same problems you're suffering. Our management was so lazy. The managers would do no work at all, even if the store was under staffed. They would just sit up in the break room and watch television and talk. I once had to zone all of green world. If you've been to Target, which you probably have, Green world is candy and snacks, pets, health and beauty, storage, cleaning supplies, ect. I had to zone all of this by myself with no help; more then once. Isiahthomas, not all black people act that way. I was at a job once and on the very first day this girl named Debbie kept asking me all these personal questions and she was white. Rudness has no racial boundries.

I didn't say all blacks act that way. I said some do. You're right though, some whites can be nosy too. I've worked at Target before & they let me go cause my boss told me he had to let some people go before Christmas 2 yrs ago cause he had too many workers which was a bunch of bull. They laid me off cause they probably felt i was too slow of a worker stocking the shelves. I had to do 3 aisles of pet food products by myself before at Target. When i asked for some help, my boss acted like he didn't wanna get anybody to help me. I can't stand bosses who try to work the s**t out of their employees but yet & still don't wanna increase your pay wage. That's slavery if u ask me. Walmart had a lawsuit against them last yr if i'm not mistaken cause they had a bunch of foreigners workin for them for free. The Walmart i used to work at had 3 asian people cleaning up the store for them on overnight shift & they were workin for free. I didn't find that out until one of the employees told me they walked off the job without telling their boss LOL. I don't blame them cause they had been there for some yrs workin for free.

You worked at Wal-Mart too! After I quit Target I took a job at Wal-Mart. I left after less then a month. I hated Wal-Mart. I don't even shop there. It is such a messy store. Junk all over the place.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN KRISTEN! I am currently working at my third retail job, and yes it sucks royally! I have been at Walgreens third shift for almost two years now. GOD I can't even believe it's been that long! See thing is, LOOOOONG story short, The town I work in is oh so known for it's wierdos and freaks. Let's just say I work in the ghetto part of town. So yeah it sucks. And I am 21 and I'm still categorized as being one of the "teenage kids that works at Walgreens" and that doesn't do ****, when I HAUL MY ASS EVERY NIGHT THERE, and for some reason no one sees it. But I must admit for the most part, my co-workers and I get along very well. We hang together after work and stuff. BUT I just don't like being in that category of a teenager that doesn't like to do work when I do more then anyone else. I'm 21 and NOT a teenager, so yeah having that said about me sucks. But anyway, when I worked at Wal-Mart they fired me after being there a month. Wait till you hear why. Well apparently they thought because I had worked at K-Mart for a year before working there, that I new how to run a register by myself. Which I do, just not when it is attached to the Layaway departments computer that I do NOT know how to operate after having only been there.....3 hours!!! So they gave me a draw and were like here ya go, ring! I was all, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Well somehow, my draw ended up being over (not short) money several times....and so they fired me. Now how smart was that??

The month I worked at Wal-Mart, I managed to never have to do any back-up cashiering. When they would call for back up I would just tell them I was with a customer. I little white lie, I admit, but I find working a register too frustrating.

That seems to be like a lot of teens I've seen. And adults.

I hope you can get out of there soon!

That's like when I worked at Kohl's. I hated doing the register. I liked hiding in the dressing rooms.

I feel your pain! I work as a sacker for a grocery store and the high school kids really piss me off! Last weekend, Mother's Day, 4 sackers didn't even bother to show up or call in! I know that if I ever did that they would have fired me for sure. I only call in if I run a fever. I show up when I'm supposed to. The guy that was in charge that weekend is buddies with the 4 that didn't bother to come in. Gee, what a coincidence.
