Yes, something so extreme that us diehard fans of the show might not make it through. Boycott all syndicated runs of the show until they release it onto DVD. Roseanne said so herself in an interview that Carsey-Werner probably isn't releasing Roseanne to DVD because it does so good in syndication, and they fear that a DVD release may damage that. It's all about money. Well, extreme as it is, it's an idea. I'm not boycotting the show at all unless others agree to go along with it too, at least enough to count and make the company nervous (however many that is), and then every single person participating in the boycott can email Carsey-Werner to tell them about it, and they will realise just how serious we really are. Any comments???

Spoken like a true fan
First of all, even if everyone on this message board stopped watching it in syndication, would that really do anything? It could just make Carsey-Werner stop showing it completely. How many board members are there? Even if there was 1,000 (which I'm sure there isn't), I would guess that only 600 of them would actually participate. Obviously there is a great number of viewers who tune in to Roseanne on Nick@Nite, much more than 600. Second of all, could we actually last for a long time without watching the show? Unless we all have tapes of the show, I don't think we would be able to do it. I fall asleep with Ncik@Nite on every night. So even though I'm sleeping, my TV is still watching Nick@Nite, including Roseanne. Once we get to 16 pages of members agreeing to it, I will of course participate. Its a good idea, but I am not sure if it will work. |

In the meantime, keep pushing for DVDs, please!!! Send emails, call, write, do whatever, just keep pushing your demands in the direction of Carsey-Werner! |

That would be totally stupid to quit watching. Low ratings=taking it off the air and then you have no Roseanne.
Personally, I think there are alot more shows that should come out on DVD's before Roseanne. The show airs 8 times a day, 5 days a week nationally and countless times on locals. Isn't that enough? |

And can we make the TV play our favriote episodes during a time which is convenient for us at will? Plus, does the TV provide us with unedited episodes and all of the special extras that DVD can give us? Fans of the show have been waiting for far too long on this one. Though I agree, there are other shows that also need to come out onto DVD. The Cosby Show and A Different World are two good examples.

The thing about DVD's is it takes so dang long for them to release the entire show, and then there's a chance if the first or second season DVD's don't sell, they'll just quit producing them and you'll never see the rest of the seasons. With Roseanne on 8 times a day right now, really, why would a lot of people SPEND MONEY to buy it on DVD when they can watch it for free on TV?

well..
1 - All networks doesnt air all episodes (nick@nite skips holiday episodes..) 2 - Us foreigners (like me, living in sweden) doesnt even get Roseanne on tv, i know people outside the US want the show too, DVDs would make that possible. |

True, it takes a VERY long time to release a series, (especially one that lasted 9 seasons) but that is why it would be good for the DVDs to start coming NOW. The sooner, the better. If Season 1 of Roseanne were to be released on June 1st, the entire series probably wouldn't be available till around late 2008 if 2 seasons were released a year. As far as the DVDs not selling well, I seriously doubt that would be a problem. Its been stated on a few web sites that Roseanne is one of the most-requested shows for DVD, (and it has a very high rating on tvshowsondvd.com) and the show seems to score high television ratings on the channels that it airs on. Its very popular, and I'm sure the DVDs would be successful. Why would people buy the DVDs when they can watch it on TV for free? Because, with DVDs you have easy access to any episode you want, whenever you want, uncut episodes instead of the syndication edits, lots of extras like commentaires, deleted scenes, bloopers, behiend-the-scenes footage, interviews, etc...and Roseanne said she would like to include extras. You get to watch the episodes in order...I think its more fun and conveinent to watch shows on DVD instead of TV. Friends and Seinfeld are good examples of shows that air multiple times a day, but are/will be successfull on DVD. Friends is on, what, its 7th Season set? And Seinfeld is coming later this year, and that show is the 2nd most requested show on tvshowsondvd.com, so it'll be huge. Brent, I'm not trying to be hostile or anything, I'm just saying I think you're in the minority regarding this situation. Most people want the DVDs ASAP. By the way, CWM is releasing 3rd Rock from the Sun DVD season sets overseas. I'm hoping that they start releasing shows in the USA in the near future... |
