Sad We've decided to put our dog to sleep.

You know the old saying "when it rains, it rains ****?"

You shouldn't, because I made it up. It's actually "when it rains, it pours." But that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, I have two pugs. One is a male, who's nine. He's doing great. In fact, for a pug, he's in great shape!

The other dog, though, a female, isn't in such great shape. She's seven, and she went totally blind last year. On top of that, she is more than ten lbs. overweight (which is a lot for a pug) and has really bad arthritis. She also has really bad breathing problems and is starting to go deaf. She's not living a very good life.

We decided we're going to put her to sleep sometime before we go on our week-long family vacation in California on June 1.

The vet has asked me if I want to be in the room with her when the procedure is done, and I haven't really decided. I'm leaning toward no, though.

I've actually seen this coming for almost a year, but it doesn't make it any easier. Every time I look at that dog, it just breaks my heart, because I know what's in store for her.

We've had both dogs since they were pupies. It's tough.

I know it's for the best, though. The best thing we can do for her is to end her suffering.

Thanks for reading.

I'm so sorry, my heart is breaking for you. We had to put our Cocker Spaniel that we had for 12 years to sleep in October, that I have to say is the hardest thing I have ever done. Our dog was suffering from seizures, and was going blind as well, it broke my heart to see him running into the walls and the furniture, and the seizures were so bad, he no energy left after them.

There was no way I could be in the room with him, it was way too hard, my heart would have died for sure if I had.

This is hard to hear, but this is the best thing for your dog. At least he won't be suffering anymore, and I just recently started to get over losing him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you

I really feel for you, Brad. Losing a pet is very hard, as I have found out in life.

I would NEVER under any circumstances be in the same room as my pet when they get put to sleep. If Oscar (a cat I've had since he was a kitten in October) had to be put to sleep, it would be really hard for me. It would really break my heart seeing the cat I had raised since he was a kitten being euthanized. Even thinking about it now is starting to get tears welled up in my eyes.

I'm sorry. I have a 6 yearold dog, and if she ever died, I'd cry a lot(but I don't usually cry).My cats 13 and in real bad shape. She might be put down in a few months if she dosn't get better. I've known her almost all my life.Well, good luck on recovering after your dog goes.

Thanks, everyone. My other dog, Max, is doing just fine. He sends his regards and wanted me to post a pic of himself (the big showoff).

He also asked me to give out our address in case there are any Sitcoms Online posters with female pugs, but I had to remind him he's neutered.

"Oh," he said. "I forgot."

Aww.

We also have two pugs, boy and girl. The girl we have is going blind and has had tumors removed a lot. She has cancer but I don't know a lot about it since my mom lies to make me feel better.

I'm really sorry about your dog. But at least she won't be suffering, so I guess that's a good thing though it's tough losing a pet.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog AKA

I had a similar experience a year ago when we had to put our 20 year old poodle to sleep. He was a big part of our family and it was almost like losing a sibling.

I really don't know what to say- I guess time heals all wounds

I'm so sorry... you have my condolences, as well. Over the years, I've lost quite a few pets that meant the world to me. Unfortunately, I've also been in your shoes. It's painful and something you don't really get over.

Tell Max he has another fan. What a cutie he is.

im sorry AKA - that is a very tough thing for anyone to go through, but it is something that almost every pet owner must face some day

i'd advise you to go with your instinct to stay out of the room when the procedure is done; you are much better off having good memories to hold on to
