Visiting a friend over the weekend in Pennsylvania, one of their radio stations had an all 80s weekend. They played the Weird AL tune "Ricky" which was a take off of the Toni Basil tune "Micky", with the lyrics of course about I Love Lucy.
Since this song came out in 1985, wonder what Lucy and Desi since both were still alive then ,( or Desi JR, Gale Gordon, or Lucie for that matter ) thought of this tune? I know whenever a pop song is out about a celebrity, its usually mixed opinions. I have read in the past that Bette Davis was a big fan of "Bette Davis Eyes" but on the flip side Charlies Schulz wasn't too happy with the tune "Snoopy & The red Baron". The fact he didn't receive any money from that song may have played a key reason though. Likewise with Moe Howard's family when the tune The Curly Shuffle" came out. I remember hearing about how they felt the tune dumb and stupid. |

I have that song. Someone here once did that song for a lip sync contest and after I heard it, I had to buy it. They did the show alldressed up like Ricky and Lucy too. It was funny.

They play that in Jamestown a lot! They show the video at the museum. I beleive that is where I first heard it. I think it is kind of screwy though. I'm sorry but most of these Lucy impersonators, take Lucy's zany side to the extreme. I don't beleive Lucy was that zany.

I thought I saw a crawl line on one of the news shows that stated Weird Al had died recently. Did any one hear the same? IF so I wonder how he died.

I remember when it came out. It was virtually the first thing Weird Al did and they played the video on 'Entertainment Tonight' complete with a brief interview with Lucy herself!
IIRC, she said she liked it because it brought back good memories of what things were like when she was younger. But, NO there were no interviews with Desi (even though he was still living)! |
