Well, as all know I recently moved from Danville NH to Parsonsfield, ME. Well, surprising as it may seem, Danville was a lot busier for such a small town, not to mention it was surrounded by bigger towns and cities. Around here though its kinda the middle of nowhere, so a lot of things concerning TV/Internet are limited unless you pay the extra $$$. Well anyways, down in NH we always had dial-up and it was fun. Yeah, it wasnt as fast as cable and whatnot, but hey I didnt complain (much). Up here though, dial-up is less than 56k!
Even scrolling up and down pages it like pauses and such- its insane. We were originally going to get DSL for like, $35/month and then the day we were supposed to get it my Dad calls them and they said that our area couldnt access it or whatever (nice of them to tell us). My Dad said theres something else we could get (I forget what its called) but itd be like $75/month and he said no way. Meangya, I even offered to pay the whole thing. Well anyways, I wanna search around online for another internet service such as Road Runner, cable, DSL or whatever that our area could carry, but I have no idea where to look. Anyone have any advice? While we're at it.. anyone have Direct TV? We have to get it up here in order to get cable but my father has still yet to call! What I wanna know is how long they take to install- do they come by the next day, next week.. 2 weeks? Thanks. |

As far as DirecTV goes, I think they will come by within a day or two. I think they setup an appointment with you for when is the most convenient time.
IF you do go with DirecTV, they have a Satellite Internet service(although dig into your pockets, it's expensive). You could also try Earthlink or Netzero or something like that. |

NetZero High Speed is pretty fast for dial up. I'm on that now. I also have SBC Yahoo. Do they have Cable Internet or Satellite? Though Satellite is realllllllllyyyyyyy expensive.
But how bizarre..our phone company originally told us too that we'd have DSL in our new house...then they said no. What's up with these people?? |

All we can get here is Cable Internet. (or something from Yahoo or DirecTV if you don't have cable). There are no local dial-up numbers(I was ecstatic, LOL, I hated dial-up).

You can get broadband for about $35 a month here with the local cable company. My brother has dial up AOL and I've suggested him to change it to either broadband or DSL. We live in the same town and DSL is not available where he lives but broadband is. weird!

I know this is a little bit late but if you are still considering various internet options you may want to look into ISDN. It offers more than twice the speed of dial-up and goes through the phone-line. Dual ISDN/Dial-up Modems can now be purchased fairly cheaply from Viking and Zoom. Hope this helps!
