Default "Joey": No Friends guest appearances during the first season, please...

Though I'm sure this will happen, I hope the producers of Joey will refrain from having guest appearances from Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, Perry and Schwimmer during the first season.

The reason being is that I feel Joey should establish itself based on its own characters and situations and not rely on "stunt casting" by a Friends cast member to boost ratings.

I'm sure it will probably happen, but I hope it won't.

What do you guys think??

Having them there will help Joey's ratings. I want the show to survive - if having the FRIENDS on as a boost helps by all means get them there.

Yeah, I'm also hoping there are no guest appearances from Friendsd cast members until at least the second second.

Once again, I'm drawing a Friends-Cheers, Frasier-Joey connection, but aside from a brief, five-second long cameo by Shelley Long (Diane Chambers) and a tasteful appearance by Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith), there were no guest appearances from Cheers cast members on Frasier until season two's "The Show Where Sam Shows Up."

And the appearance by Lilith HAD to be done.... even if it weren't a spinoff, the ex-wife had to be seen sometime.

I think they should have "Friend" guest star appearances during the run of the show. But only rarley. Like during the first season have a "Friends" guest star on for the first and last episode of the season. If they try to live off "Friends" they may never make it.

I disagree -- if Joey wants to get anywhere.... the pilot should be the least Friends like episode of the series.
I think Joey should already be living in LA when the show starts, without any visible ties to his NY life.

I think a reason Joey may have been greenlighted is because NBC figures the others will guest-star at times.

Who do you think is most likely to appear? I think Phoebe and Chandler/Monica (if Cox and Perry's schedules conflict, I can see maybe writing in that Chandler's away on business and happens to be in L.A.) will be most likely. Considering that Schwimmer and Aniston were the most outspoken "it's time to let the show end", I doubt it's likely either will guest-star on Joey, at least not in the first season or second.

There's actually a poll asking that very question.

Jennifer said if she were asked to guest star she'd do it in a heartbeat. David said he'd be directing a few episodes of "Joey". I thing the cast are pretty good friends off screen so it's likely they'll all guest star at some point. I don't think they all hate the original series like Kirstie Alley who wouldn't ever do a guest spot on Frasier.

barwars88,

your username would happen to be a reference to Bill Murray's lounge singer on the original Saturday Night Live, would it???

"Star Wars, if they shoud... bar wars, please let these Star Wars... stay."

Answring for Barwars: It's actually a reference to Cheers. Every episode in which they engaged in their rivalry with Gary's Olde Town Tavern had the words "Bar Wars" in its title.

"Bar Wars"
"Bar Wars II: The Woodman Strikes Back"
"Bar Wars III: The Return Of Tecumseh"
"Bar Wars V: The Final Judgment"
"Bar Wars VI: This Time It's For Real"
"Bar Wars VII: The Naked Prey"

I never understood why Kirstie was "too big" to do Frasier. EVERY other Cheers regular eventually guested on there at least once, except Kirstie.

Maybe all those Pier One ads got to her head haha. Anyway, am I the only one who prefers the Kirsite years to the Shelly years? I know most Cheers fans dissagree, but I liked it much better with Kirstie.

She has stated that her beliefs as a Scientologist prevented her from appearing on the show. Apparently, they don't believe in psychiatry(???).
