Default Best Season on DVD so far??

What do you think would be the best season to buy on DVD.... if you havent seen all that much of the show (maybe 20, 30 episodes top)??

Ive just recently become a fan (we're talking hours, not days).... and Im already wondering about the DVDs.

Or should I go with the obvious -- Season 1?!

season 1 is a must-purchase for someone who wants a Friends season, that one will tell you if you like the series or not. I personally consider seasons 4-6 (1997-2000) as perhaps the prime of the series. Season 7 (which came out a month ago) is the weakest season of the series IMO.

Thanks for the info.

Im not quite to the DVD stage yet.... but I will definately check Friends out more in reruns.
I just feel like a hypocrit for bad-mouthing the show throughout its entire run, up until now -- the day of the finale.

I own seasons 3-6 on DVD and I really enjoy them all. Those seasons really have the show's best moments, imo. You could also buy The Best of Friends DVDs. They're four volumes with a collection of episodes from all different seasons and they include some of the most famous Thanksgiving episodes.

Season 6 is my favorite. It is a more mature season. It was the season when all the twenty-somethings became thirty-somethings, if you know what I mean.

I agree, I'd rank season 6 as my third fave (after 1 and 4). I dunno what it is, but 7-10 just didn't quite have the spark as the first 6 IMO.

Season 4 is the absolute best. The characters were developed by then and the writing was at an all-time high. With the exception of TOW the Ballroom Dancing (I don't like the mainplot, but the subplots are good), they are all homeruns (well, TOW the Cat is easily argued, but the Monica subplot is great stuff).

Honestly, of all the TV I've ever watched, some of the greatest comedy I've ever seen was confined within this season. TOW the Embryos is generally considered the best episode ever and with good reason.

http://www.411mania.com/movies/revie...eviews_id=3086 <---That's a great review right there.

After buying season 4, I'd say go with season 2, then go 1, 3, 5, 6.

If you're big into "extras", the later seasons were better, just because of producer commentary, outtakes etc;. If you just want funny episodes, you can't go wrong with any season except maybe the Rachel pregnant season. Anyone who can sit through "TOW Joey's fridge and not laugh has no sense of humor.

if I had to rank the seasons from best to worst... I'd go with

1. season 4 -- I think this is when everything totally gelled. Many of the funniest moments were in this season, and plus, I don't think the cast had completely yet gotten caught up in their hype (as compared to say season 7 or 9). I think the cast were all given some of their finest material this season.
2. season 1 -- the beginning of everything. So many classic episodes this season. Definately dated in retrospect (but hey, it's been a decade), but this is when we fell in love with them in the first place.
3. season 6 -- another great season. The first part dealing with the marriage between Ross and Rachel wasn't that good but by the fourth or fifth episode, it was great again, some of the funniest moments are in this season. I think Ross Got High may very well be the funniest episode in Friends' history. I also think this season well-documented their "maturity".
4. season 5 -- after the whammy of the end of season 4, much of the first half of this season played into that storyline.
5. season 2 -- another good season. It was better when it originally aired (as opposed to how seasons 1 and 4 are as good now as they were 6-10 years ago), but there's still some great episodes. Who doesn't remember the Prom Tape episode?
6. season 3 -- not as good as the other classic seasons, but still pretty good. The series reaches it's darkest moments when Ross and Rachel break up this season. There are some classics this season like Football, but also there was the lameness of the millionaire plot where Monica dated Jon Favreau
7. season 8 -- not among the classic seasons, but after the atrocity of season 7, and also getting it's butt kicked in the ratings by Survivor, the cast and crew really put forth the effort and I believe this season showed that Friends still had wind left in it (I know many people who thought after season 7, Friends was over and done with)
8. season 10 -- a nice farewell season. I can't rank it too highly because IMO, this entire season has basically been wrapping up the story as opposed to furthering it.
9. season 9 -- fairly weak, but it did have it's moments.
10. season 7 -- the nadir of the series IMO. There was still some funny episodes, but I think that they were fewer and far between this season.

What better way to get into a show than the pilot?!

Maybe its just a one-shot deal because of the finale tonight.... but my local FOX is airing the pilot episode of Friends right now, and after watching a later season episode (with Rachel pregnant).... the earlier seasons are MUCH better.

Turns out BestBuy has a deal if you buy two season sets you save $10.

I might pick up Season 1 & Season 2 today for $29.99 each - $10 off = $50+tax

is that a good deal??
thats a little over a dollar an episode.... i guess it doesnt get any better.
