It's too bad stand-up comedy albums aren't as popular now as they were in the '60s and '70s. For me, they're still something special.
My top 20: 1. Bill Hicks - Arizona Bay (Rykodisc; 1997) 2. David Cross - Shut Up, You ****ing Baby (Sub-Pop; 2002) 3. George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (Atlantic; 1999) 4. Bill Cosby - To Russel, My Brother, Whom I Slept With (Warner; 1968) 5. Bill Hicks - Rant In E-Minor (Rykodisc; 1997) 6. Steve Martin - Let's Get Small (Warner; 1977) 7. Bill Hicks - Relentless (Invasion; 1992) 8. Chris Rock - Roll With The New (DreamWorks; 1997) 9. George Carlin - Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics (Atlantic; 1990) 10. David Cross - It's Not Funny (Sub-Pop; 2004) 11. Richard Pryor - Bicentennial ****** (Warner; 1976) 12. Robin Williams - Live 2002 (Sony; 2002) 13. Sam Kinison - Louder Than Hell (Warner; 1990) 14. Dennis Miller - The Off-White Album (Warner; 1987) 15. George Carlin - Jammin' In New York (Atlantic; 1992) 16. Bill Cosby - Bill Cosby Is A Very Funny Fellow... Right! (Warner; 1963) 17. George Carlin - FM & AM (Atlantic; 1972) 18. Bill Hicks - Dangerous (Invasion; 1989) 19. Sam Kinison - Have You Seen Me Lately (Warner; 1990) 20. Bill Cosby - My Father Confused Me... What Must I Do? What Must I Do? (Warner; 1977) The first person to post a Jeff Foxworthy or Denis Leary album gets flamed.

I used to rent stand up comedy tapes from blockbuster, but I did buy 2 Carlin cd's. I used to have Richard Pryor- That ni$#%$s Crazy on record. I taped all sorts of stuff when I had HBO, Paul Rodriquez, Harland Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Dennis Miller, George Carlin, and of course JEFF FOXWORTHY! I saw the funniest thing a couple of weeks ago on Spike TV. They had Sam Kinison doing standup and every other word was bleeped out.

My friend's dad had a few Red Foxx comedy albums. When we were kids, we'd go down into his rec room and listen to them.
It wasn't anything like Sanford and Son let me tell you!!- very raunchy stuff

I think it is sad if you are working to be a comedian and you steal another comedian's work. How did he think he would get away with it when the comedy community is so close, did he think someone would notice and they did. NOT COOL!!!! |

I love all of Margaret Cho's standup albums, especially Notorious C.H.O. I'm The One That I Want doesn't succeed as well on disc as it does on DVD though.

by the way, Cho's most recent stand-up venture, Revolution, is supposed to be out on DVD by the end of the month. I have seen both I'm The One That I Want and Notorious C.H.O. countless times

I haven't heard that many comedy albums at all, but one I'd pick is Richard Pryor Live in Concert 1979. My mom had it on cassette and I'd listen to it when I was younger and thought it was the funniest stuff I ever heard.

Eddie Murphy's "Raw", Robin Harris's "Bebe's Kids", I usually don't like comdey albums/CD's because the comedy is visual and you hear the crowd reacting and I'm thinking what is he doing???
