We sang that for the Christmas concert. I didn't like it at all.. it was sad, though.

Christmas songs are supposed to be either fun and happy OR uplifting and powerful.... a song about death on Christmas is NOT what the world needs.

I lost my mom, I know how sad it is... but unlike "The Christmas Shoes", I don't wanna ruin a holiday by SINGING about it.

What's next? "The Christmas Suicide"
"I found out there's no Santa, it made me quite upset
As much as I try to block it out, there's no way I can forget
So here I drink this egg nog, laced with cyanide
To help me go and end it all... committing suicide... on Christmas that is"

(not saying that suicide is funny, because it's not... but considering what The Christmas Shoes is about... it makes me disgusted and it opens the door for "Christmas" songs like that)

Exactly. i dont see anything funny about 'grandma got ran over by a reindeer' either. grandma died, let's write a silly song about it. i might as well write a song like that about my mom dying from cancer.

I second this 100%.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. This is one song that I never listen to either and one reason why is because I have never understood why having a new pair of shoes would be so important in the first place. The only thing that the Lord will care about is what kind of person the deceased person was on the inside. Their exterior at the end of the day might be completely irrelevant.

I never understood how on earth The Christmas Shoes became a popular Christmas song but the song originally became popular because of the novel of the same name and I think why it became popular in the first place was because it was the first well-known hit of Christian group Newsong and because of The Christmas Shoes Newsong made themselves a huge household name in Christian music and in addition to The Christmas Shoes Newsong released other Christmas songs and Christmas albums. But I remember hearing The Christmas Shoes for the first time and I couldn't believe how weird the song was. And not only that the novel of The Christmas Shoes was also a movie and later the novel had a sequel called The Christmas Blessing and also was made into a movie like The Christmas Shoes did. I think the author of The Christmas Shoes novel knew how popular of a fanbase the book would get and little did we know that The Christmas Shoes would be an iconic Christmas song and it's still a popular song during the holiday season on the radio. When it's Christmas time this song always pops up on the holiday music stations on Pandora every year I add them to Pandora
