Default Inconsistencies: Let's think as many as we can

We all sit here and laugh about the inconsistencies of this show. Let's seriously think of them all. It could be fifty, I don't care. Let's get it out in the open.

1. James brings home two book bags, one for Florida and one for him. He decided to go back to Night School. But what happened?

2. The Willona thread TVA gave.

3. What happened to Carl after Florida came back. Her name shoulda been Florida Dixon, right. Don't tell me he died too. He did have Cancer. LOL

4. Why was Michael still hanging around if he was going to college? I could be wrong about this.

5. Keith's leg damage. I won't even start on this again. Ok I will. As big a stud as he was (according to one of us on the board, LOL,) JJ destroys his career.

6. Never seen Gertie Vincent again.

7. The final episode- that's when I began to question GT. I just never thought that after twenty five years, there would be something called an internet, where you could talk about this shyt. LOL. Anyway, Keith and Thelma are moving into their own place, with Florida. Then Willona is moving into the same apartment, upstairs or something like that. How could that be???

8. Also, number 7 could've been a spinoff. Keith, themla, willona, and Florida.

9. Thelma and Michael never had friends. until Poppo and crew, the only friends JJ had were the Satan Knights and the two guys who chumped him up in the hallway after James stupidly returned that money. And speaking of that.....

10...... why in the hell did he return that money in the first place? I know Florida influenced him, but damn, they were poor. He shoulda kept all 29,000. Case in point and a true story. My father is a church man. Many years ago, he found a wallet on the bus that contained $275.00. And do you think he did with it. We split it up, LOL.

It's Tuesday and mostly everyone here is gone to a seminar, for the rest of the week. Hell, this is my chill day. I may post shyt all day. Ha ha ha.

Anyway, feel free to add,

The Jesus picture that Florida had in her family for years was gone from its original place in the last season replaced by a shelf full of plants and knicks-knacks.

An even bigger inconsistancy is why Carl didn't come with Florida at the beginning of the last season. I know that Carl had lung cancer during the final episodes of season 4 and that they moved to Arizona for his health. Did possibly Carl die from his cancer, thus making Florida a widow for the second time in 2 years??? I felt like that it was odd that they acted like Carl never existed during the last season.

Florida certainly wasn't sad for a woman who was widowed twice between Sept 1976 and Sept 1978. Come to think of it, after DAMN DAMN DAMN she didn't seem sad at all. She even went out with Willona and met a man at a bar very soon after that (the one where she encounters Bookman stepping out on his wife). She didn't seem the least bit mournful in that episode.

It is amazing how poor the writing was in this series, and yet the show had so much going for it, despite this. If things were better this could have ran into the 80s no doubt.

Here is another inconsistency:

Thelma moves out of the apartment and moves into the dormitory in college where she shares it with a bunch of people(one of whom eats everything in sight). How did Thelma support herself when she lives in the apartment at the dormitory???

In response to why Michael was still hanging around in the last season when he was in college, maybe he didn't want to live at the dormitory and I wonder why Michael and Thelma didn't have jobs in the last season. Florida,J.J,and Keith certainly did but why didn't Michael and Thelma.

Yet another inconsistancy:

What happened to the $2500.00 that the Evans won in the lottery??? How come that Willona and the kids had to sell hot underwear to raise money for Florida to go on a trip??? I can't help but think about that 3 cupped bra that they found. That was hilarious

Was Thelma still in college in the last season? And what was she studying when she was there anyway?

Also if my math is right they had Michael and Penny skip a year in age between years 5 and 6. Michael was 11 when the show started in March 1974. By September 1978 he was 17. Penny went from being 11 to being 13 in one season.

Also, as was mentioned earlier Willona shouldn't have been in the projects before Penny came on the scene. The projects were designed for limited income families and widows, she was neither at that point.

Another: Lou Gossett was seen as Florida's brother once and never mentioned again.

One more: Are we really to believe that Willona and Florida are in the same age range?

One more: Correct me if I'm wrong, but they made almost no mention of James at all after DAMN DAMN DAMN. I remember JJ talking about him when the athlete tried to commit suicide, but that was it. It's as if he was completely forgotten. I don't remember if they mentioned him when Granpa and Lena came to visit.

I'm sure there are a bunch of other inconsistencies to this series. It's funny when you sit and numerate them all.

Thelma's graduation from college and Michael's graduation from high school was never mentioned.

James was indeed mentioned in the episode where James' dad appears with Lena and James' dad says how he missed him and Florida chokes up when he says that, and she says,"Me too."

To clear up the Thelma/College thing. Thelma graduated in 1976. Generally when a person is in college, it can be based on a four year criteria/program. Thelma really should have graduated class of 1980.

Thelma and Michael did have friends but them having friends was not the foucs of the show. We have to remember that. One of Thelma's friends Joanne appeared in the ep entitle "A Loss of Confidence"

Thanks for the info Thomas. What was Thelma doing with herself in the last season, other than being Keith's wife? I know this show is from a different era in a sense, but did she just drop everything to be his wife?

That is where I found a problem with Thelma's doings in the last season. She was going to a junior college and you would have thought that she would have transferred to university level. She still did dancing at the community center and worked part time at the botique. Other than that , that was all. I would have like to have seen her do more with her career, but hey if I were a female marrying a millionare who loved me, I would sit back and eat my bon bons from home and say "work baby work!" LOL.

Actually, Thelma graduated from High School in 1976 because in the episode J.J's Fiancee they are going to the senior prom. The episode where Thelma shares an apartment in the dormitory was in the 5th season, her 2nd year in college.

LOL. They were very traditional in the women's roles in the Evans family. FLorida could have had a job long before year 6 too. I dare say that if she were working they might not have even been in the projects to begin with. I guess they didn't go that route because they didn't have childcare for the kids especially with Florida's brother out of town, her cousin at the racetrack, her parents nonexistent and James father denying his existence.

This show really is from another era when men were expected to be the breadwinners and women fell in line.

How come Florida's brother (Lou Gossett) or sister (Cleatus' mother) didn't attend James' funeral?
