Exclamation 'Frasier' Spin-Off Closer to a Reality? **UPDATE**

From TVGUIDE.com...

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: Kelsey Grammer apparently isn't letting Frasier go without a fight. Last month, Paramount — with Grammer's blessing — allegedly pitched NBC a new series chronicling the next phase of Frasier's life, Variety reports. NBC opted against continuing the franchise, leaving producers free to A) shop the project elsewhere, B) quit while they're ahead or C) feel silly for even suggesting such a thing. Let's pray they went with B or C.

Well, maybe not.

I WOULD NOT want to see 'Frasier' or anything like it on another network. That happened to the Golden Girls when they did Golden Palace and went to CBS...it tanked.

***********NOW FROM THE FUTON CRITIC FOR TODAY: ******************

FRASIER (NBC) - Paramount Network Television chief Garry Hart reportedly met with several NBC executives last week about the possibility of a spin-off of the soon-to-conclude series, which would chronicle the next phase in Frasier's life. Only Kelsey Grammer would make the transition to the new series, which more than likely would place Dr. Crane in a new city. Nevertheless both parties vehemently deny the meeting took place. Regardless, those familiar with the unconfirmed meeting say the Peacock flatly turned down the potential continuation of the "Cheers"/"Frasier" franchise. NBC had the right of first refusal for any "Frasier" spin-off, so with the negotiating window now closed Paramount is free to pitch the series to other broadcast networks. Key to any future of the franchise however is the involvement of Grammer, who has said on several occassions he wouldn't have minded continuing with the series for another season.***********

I agree, if a spinoff is created, it should stay on NBC.

AWESOME!!

I hope they reconsider.

I wonder what it will be like.

Kelsey OBVIOUSLY loves playing Frasier and it gives some hope for a reunion of either Frasier and/or Cheers sometime down the road.

Quit while you're ahead Kelsey.

Two hit shows are enough.

My roommate and I were discussing the idea of Frasier Crane coming back for another spinoff, and as usual, he totally disagreed with me.

However, he had a pretty funny idea for the spinoff:

Frasier moves to another city to begin his retiremant and become a novelist.
While outlining his first novel, a crime thriller about a criminal psychiatrist, he begins researching with the local police department's detectives squad and in classic meddling Fraiser Crane style becomes entwined in various cases!

Kind of like a comedy/drama in the spirit of "Murder She Wrote."

Of course, Martin and Niles will make frequent guest appearances.

haha.... sounds cool.
just make it COMPLETE comedy and itll be perfect.

Kelsey Grammer wants to continue playing "Frasier".... Laura Linney is rumored to jump into a sitcom of her own -- YOU put the 2 together.

I'd prefer if they spun off another character, like Simon Moon or somebody like that.

Alright Kelsey. Let's quit while we are ahead shall we? I mean, the show has only this last season gotten good again after a 3 year slump. It's time to stop. I love Cheers and I love Frasier, but enough is enough. He's played Frasier for 20 years, that's plenty. Let's PLEASE go out with some dignity. As someone else said, that was denied to the Golden Girls with their spinoff Golden Palace. Besides, what would they call it? Frasier: Volume 2?

Well, at least they're not planning a spin-off completely revolving around Eddie.

Grammer: Frasier Character Could Return

NEW YORK (AP) - Kelsey Grammer isn't shutting the door on the idea of bringing back his long-running character, Frasier Crane, on another television series.

Grammer said he had discussed the idea with Paramount, the company that produces "Frasier," but there have been no definite plans.

"It may be a possibility at some point," Grammer told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "I'm not closed to the possibility. It would have to be really good."

Grammer said he'd like some time off from the character, holding off any possible return until "when the television landscape is appropriately bleak."

The 11-year run of the NBC comedy ends with Thursday's finale.

Including his stint on "Cheers," Grammer has portrayed the pompous psychiatrist for a full 20 years on network television. That ties James Arness of "Gunsmoke" for the longest stretch an actor has played a single character in prime time.

A Paramount executive declined to comment Tuesday on the possibility of the character returning in some fashion.

"The idea of him going on with the character is totally plausible," said actor David Hyde Pierce, who has played Frasier's brother, Niles. "I don't feel at the end of the series that he'd exhausted all he could do with the character. I think it's a great idea."

Pierce said no one has asked him about continuing and - given the way the series ends on Thursday - he's not sure whether another series would have room for him.

"Frasier" gets a one-hour send-off on Thursday, one week after some 52 million people watched the last episode of "Friends" on NBC.

Ratings for "Frasier," a five-time Emmy winner for best comedy, have faded over the past few years but improved recently with the approach of the finale.

I have absolutely no problem with another spinoff. Who cares how long Kelsey plays the character. If he's happy doing it, so be it.
