Default The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited vs. The Carol Burnett Show: Let's Bump Up the Lights

Both classic shows feature reunions next week on CBS.
Which are you looking forward to more??

Tuesday May 11th
9:00/8:00c - "The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited"

Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Carl Reiner and Rose Marie reunite for THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW REVISITED, a new television special to be broadcast Tuesday, May 11 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Other original series cast members Larry Mathews (Richie Petrie), Ann Morgan Guilbert (Millie Helper) and guest stars Jerry Van Dyke (Stacey Petrie) and Bill Idelson (Herman Glimcher) also return for a new episode of the series set in 2004. The special catches up with Rob and Laura Petrie, in the present day, 40 years after the series was originally broadcast. Ray Romano ("Everybody Loves Raymond") hosts the 159th episode. In the new episode, writers Rob and Sally each receive a phone call from Alan Brady with a strange request: Alan, who admires the eulogies that the pair wrote for Buddy and Millie’s late husband’s funerals, wants them to write his eulogy before he dies. He rationalizes the request by telling them that he wants to know what they will say about him and he also wants the chance to do a rewrite. To induce them, he offers to pay a very large fee for the dubious job. Rob and Sally are uncertain that they can actually complete the assignment given their real feelings about Alan, but they reluctantly agree to try… for the money! Classic clips from the original series will also be seen.

Wednesday, May 12th
10:00/9:00c - "The Carol Burnett Show: Let's Bump Up the Lights"

Legendary variety show star Carol Burnett reunites with Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner for THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW: LET’S BUMP UP THE LIGHTS, a new entertainment special to be broadcast Wednesday, May 12 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. In the special, the illustrious cast comes together before an audience to introduce never-before-seen clips from the spontaneous and hilarious moments that were seen at the beginning of every "The Carol Burnett Show" -- where Carol and the gang answered questions from the studio audience. The question and answer segments featured Carol as herself, not as a character, as she answered the no-holds-barred questions from audience members. Always impromptu and spur-of-the-moment, the segments showed Carol at her creative and improvisational best. Questions were also often asked of fellow cast members Harvey, Tim, Vicki and Lyle who joined Carol on stage to respond. Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite clips by telephone or the Internet. Carol will announce the top three clips on CBS News’ "The Early Show" (7:00-9:00 AM, ET/PT) the morning after the broadcast.

This is the first I'm hearing about the Carol Burnett Special. However, it doesn't matter because I'm really looking forward to the Dick Van Dyke Show Special. The DVDs have made me a fan of the show. Although it's going to be extremely sad with them acknowledging the deaths of Buddy Sorrell and Jerry Helper. I wonder if they'll have Mel Cooley deceased as well. Sad they won't be there, but I'm still glad the special is being made.

I am looking forward to seeing the best TV married couple of all time together again: Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. They looked, and still do, natural together.

I'm more excited about the Dick Van Dyke Show reunion, because the Carol Burnett Show had a reunion not too long ago, but I will definitely watch both.

It was at the end of November 2001 when they had the reunion, and Lyle Waggoner wasn't with them for the reunion, like he will be with this upcoming one.
