I noticed something kind of funny, (well atleast to me anyway), about a few things they said on the show. One thing being whenever they referred to Wally usually, when they couldn't remember his name they would always say, "That Cleaver boy". LOL! Also, I noticed Wally pronounced his words a little different. For example, different came out kind of like, "Differnt" and pretty came out kind of like, "Purty". LOL, it is kind of cute. Did anyone else notice this?

I have noticed that he has a "purty" strong Midwest accent! We do pronounce it "differnt" here!

Yes, just the other day in the episode where Eddie has the credit card, his mother calls Wally "that Cleaver boy." I think that was pretty absurd--Wally is Eddie's best friend! Sure, June probably knows Eddie better because he goes to their house more than Wally goes to Eddie's, but geez, Mrs. Haskell really shouldn't have said that. It's strange hearing a mother of her son's best friend referring to him like he is some aquaintance. To me, it's almost a mistake of the writers.

I've never heard Beaver called "that Cleaver boy". I think he was supposed to be more well known than Wally was. It sounded sort of rude when Mrs. Haskell called him that. She should know Wally well enough to remember his name.

I agree that it was rude that Mrs. Haskell didn't even remember Wally's name; I was even a little shocked myself! I never heard Beaver being referred to as, "That Cleaver boy" either. However, I would think that sometimes Wally would be a little more well-known than Beaver since he is supposed to be a well-known athlete of Mayfield High. Hmm, search me!

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who wondered about that! I can see there were a whole legion of folks out here who also noticed Mrs. Haskell referring to Wally as "that Cleaver boy." Lol!

LOL, sorry Boomer I am from New York I don't know about these Mid-West accents of yours. I have lived in New York all my life. We have our own accents. For example, I noticed another thing they said differently was roof. They say it like, "Ruff", (like a dog's barking, lol.) We say, "Roof", (the oo's are pronounced like in, "ooze"). Hehe, everybody has their own ways of saying things I guess. It is very interesting to me.

My grandfather is like that too. An example in his case is when he says the word 'tuna' (like the fish), he says it like there is an 'r' on the end. It comes out 'tuner'.

What gave you the idea that I was from the mid-west? Lol! Actually, I'm a relative neighbor of yours. I live in New England, where we have our own distinct accents up here. Remember when the store clerk at the sporting goods store told Beaver that he had "better learn the language if he is going to New England." Lol!

Has anyone ever noticed that the characters on the show, when they were talking about tv said "look at" instead of "watch" ?

For example: "Do you want to look at television tonight?" I don't think I ever heard them say "watch tv". Isn't that different for everyone or do some parts of the country say it that way?

Duluthduke- LoL, sorry.
GidgetCleaver- I did noticed that. I noticed that they would always say, "television" instead of TV all of the time, maybe because it was a pretty new invention back then and everyone always made a big deal. No one had probably even thought of an abbreviation yet! However, I don't think it mattered where you lived on that one, I think everyone said it. (I could be wrong.)
SilverSword- I also noticed that. I usually noticed it with Wally. He is always known for his way of saying things differently.

P.S. About the television thing, watching these old TV shows makes you think about how sometimes we take things for granted nowadays.
