He had to wear one when he was on Cheers. The hair was one of Sam Malone's biggest assets.

That was one of the final episodes of the series. If it jumped the shark, I think there was only one or two episodes left.

If you watch Cheers' 200th episode, you can tell that Danson is not wearing a hairpiece, and that he is CLEARLY balding...i would say he probably started wearing one around the time that Shelley left the show, you can notice his hair starting to thin out up to that point.

Maybe Diane/Shelley stressed him out too much lol. Maybe she sped up the genetic balding process. It's a plausible theory.
