Thumbs up Dolly, Oprah & Mariah

April 17, 2004

DOLLY, OPRAH AND MARIAH

Dolly, Oprah, and Mariah - Influential Female Stars What does country crooner Dolly Parton have in common with talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, and sultry songstress Mariah Carey? Don't roll your eyes! The trio of women are being recognized universally for their influential, creative, and philanthropic endeavours.

Dolly Parton, 58, will receive “The Living Legend” award Wednesday from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., a spokeswoman for the entertainer said. Parton was chosen by the library’s curators and specialists, honorees include artists, writers, entertainers, activists, filmmakers, physicians, sports figures and public servants.

TV giant Oprah Winfrey was recognized by Morehouse College during during their 137th Founder's Week, receiving the Candle for Lifetime Achievement in Humanitarian Service Award at their annual "A Candle in the Dark" Gala. Winfrey shared a piece of her heart and a hefty piece of her checkbook with the organisation.

Lastly, songbird Mariah Carey deserves kudos for being idol to the idols. A quick survey of 'up-coming' divas proved Carey's talents were a great source of inspiration to many. Stars to acknowledge Carey were Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Britney Spears, and Mandy Moore. Carey received the 2003 Chopard Diamond World Music Award for career achievements and over 100 million albums sold worldwide.

come on "hate" is kind of harsh. She has done a lot of good things for women.

There are times when I don't like her much, either. She has gone too far to get ratings in the past. In 2002 when Cher was on, she showed a clip of her giving the eulogy at Sonny's funeral. They only showed Cher crying a little, but she really left the set and didn't come back for over an hour. There was no reason she had to show that clip. Also when Shania was on last year, she kept digging into her painful past.
