I was channel surfing and I caught this series on TECH TV this morning. I think it was made in the 60's and had all these cheesy special effects on it. During the scenes, this pop-up windows would show up and explain some of the cheesiness ; you could even see the strings where the puppets were hanging from!
The subject today had to deal with a building collapsing in NY when they tried to 'move' the Empire State Buiding. Who would've thought that something similar was going to happen for real more than 30yrs later. Here's a 'family portrait' of the Thunderbirds

The show is one of several supermarionation shows that were the creation of British producer Gerry Anderson (also known for his 70s series Space 1999). In order they are Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, and Joe 90. Each series failed because they were intended to be picked up by a U.S. network but it never happened for any of them. I believe they all are available on DVD in complete series sets. Four episodes from Stingray and Captain Scarlet were edited together to make two movies the four Stingray episodes being Invaders from the Deep and the four CS episodes being Revenge of the Mysterons. Both movies were seen as the first two episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Unfortunately they were only available in a local Minnesota station called KTMA and they were only aired once and cannot be aired on TV for legal reasons. Thunderbirds had two original movies made. They were Thunderbirds are GO and Thunderbird 6.

Yeah, I love this show too. Been watching it when I can over on TechTv (so glad they have it!). It's always fun to watch, and those little popups are great.
