Post Jump The Shark: Facts Of Life

When do you think FOL jumped the shark? I think it did when Over Our Heads came into the storyline...it was such a corny shop.

It means, how a sitcom changes something, and how it effects the sitcom. Like if you said, "Day One"...it meant that the sitcom shouldn't of never been made.

Different terms are mentioned when it comes to shows. Day One was mentioned. Here's some other examples:

Puberty: When the kids grow up, a good example being Arnold on Diff'rent Strokes; the point being the characters grow out of their part, as Arnold did later. So what a show does is get another cute kid to replace him, in this case Sam the Redhead. And it doesn't work out. The classic example of course is Cousin Oliver on Brady Bunch. He definitely didn't work out.

Same Character Different Actor: When more than 1 actor/actress plays a part. A good example being Vivian Banks of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Lionel Jefferson of the Jeffersons (2 Vivians; 2 Lionels). Very CheeseWiz Indeed and probably results on account of contract disputes w/the original actor.

They Did It: 2 main characters well have sex and it changes the way they look to the viewer. Things are never the same again

Moving: Self explainatory; characters change locations (sets really) during a series.

And so on. www.jumptheshark.com has quite the selection of categories that are common to TV shows or you can make your own. This site is genius. I'll be back with a classic thread to give the newbies an idea of how it goes. Be back in a sec.

Right Now I'm Back. And here's a typical vote from the Jump the Shark Wonder Years board:

How did a nerdy dork overnight become a studly basketball star? Completely unrealistic! The last season really lost me. Kevin became a hot-headed jerk. Probably repressed hostilities over an adolescence being jerked around by Winnie for all of those years. Should have moved on back in junior high. Madeline vs. Winnie: Yo Kev--are you an idiot?

Yes you can even vote on the site after you're done reading the awesome bits of data that sometimes get off into insanity as you'll see in a moment:

A Jump The Shark Troll:

"You guys are insane, spending all this time watching stupid TV shows and then surfing the web 24/7 to comment and complain about them?! Or the other extreme- rant and rave and brag on them?! All of you are insane. The only reason I'm online right now is because I'm stuck inside sick. You should all get a reality check and GO OUTSIDE! Start to do something that doesn't involve staring at a screen. Get with it."

And a classic response! Coming up:

"To the guy that says we all need to get a reality check, I have a few words to say. For one thing, I do get outside. Plenty. Does being a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps counts as being outside. I bet I carry more weight every day than you weigh. What is the most weight YOU have ever picked up?? The weight of a beer can??

Now, if you want to sit there all high and mighty and feel as though you are the best person in the world, go ahead. But let me tell you this fact that is as simple as 1+1. You are not perfect! Only God is perfect. So, please, YOU need to get a reality check and maybe, a set of balls before you become that judgmental again. I bet you hadn't even hit puberty when I entered the military. So, as for you, Mr. Pant E. Waist, you can take your "Get with it"'s and your "?!"'s and put them up your @$$. Have a sucky day."

Probably hadn't had his coffee yet
