Now who would have looked at a Lenny and Squiggy spinoff? They were good in the presence of normal characters . Not by their selves

I read once that they had taped a pilot spin-off for Lenny and Squiggy. They were supposed to have joined the army but after they taped it, they decided Lenny and Squiggy were better on "Laverne and Shirley." That pilot would make a great extra on a DVD set.

Lenny and Squiggy in the Army - That scares me. LOL
I don't think i'd be interested in that. I really don't care for military sitcoms.

I think I read or heard back when the show was in its 2nd or 3rd season, that Garry Marshall was thinking of doing a spinn off about them. If I'm right, thank god they didn't do it!

I also seem to remember that they were also thinking about doing a spinoff with Potsie and Ralph from HAPPY DAYS. Again, if I'm right, thank god they didn't!

The President of ABC kept encouraging Gary Marshall to do more spinoffs because of Laverne and Shirley's success. So that's why he was trying to develop more which he did, Mork and Mindy, and Joanie Loves Chachi

David L. Lander didn't get MS until the mid-eighties; he was at the top of his game during the late seventies and early eighties when L&S was filming.

Perhaps they were smart enough to realize it would never take off? And even if the network pushed for it, I doubt the actors would've agreed to it. They had a good thing going and wouldn't want to ruin it. The characters are a one trick pony...

If they were thinking of doing a Lenny & Squiggy spinoff while Laverne & Shirley was at its peak... thank god they didn't!! (If it would have meant that MMK and DL would have to leave L&S). Laverne & Shirley just wouldn't have been the same without the oddball humor of Lenny & Squiggy... I think it really added something fresh to the show (a little change of pace from the physical comedy that Penny & Cindy were such pros at). If we're talking about a Lenny & Squiggy spinoff after L&S started losing steam... I might be *slightly* more game with the idea (although in terms of feasibility, MMK was pretty much gone from L&S by the end, and so I doubt he would have been game for a spinoff). And still, I agree with the consensus that the boys in a spinoff might be too much Lenny-and-Squiggy-ness (however... I'm not going to lie - the idea intrigues me...).

I can't imagine there being a spin-off of Lenny and Squiggy. Laverne/Shirley and Lenny/Squiggy were all married to one another, figuratively speaking!

Although David Lander and Michael McKean created the "Lenny and Squiggy"
characters (while in college, I think) long before Garry Marshall came up with
Laverne & Shirley, I don't think that a weekly TV series would have
worked either. They were funnier in small doses.

By the way, Hanna-Barbera did produce an animated series with Laverne and
Shirley in the army (and Ron Palillo--Horshack on Welcome Back, Kotter--as their sergeant, Squealy, a real pig!). I guess when they were casting a
pig, someone thought of using the former Sweathog!

Lenny was once a member of the Army Reserves in S1.
