Control. I never bought the CD but I still have the cassette that my brother bought for me in '86.

Post my ranking

1. Control (1986) - because it's the one where she was no longer just Michael's little sister, because Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (and the forgotten Monte Moir, who wrote and produced the funkiest track: Pleasure Principle) gave her some funky, catchy songs, because it was a huge favorite of mine back then and reminds me of a younger, fun time in my life

2. The Velvet Rope (1997) - Great cd, practically not a bad track on it, favorites are "Got Til It's Gone", "Empty", "Go Deep" and "I Get Lonely"

3. Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) - I'm a big Prince fan, but the Batman soundtrack wasn't my favorite album that year, this was

4. janet. (1993) - "If" and "What'll I Do" are probably my favorites

5. Janet Jackson (1982) - liked the singles way back then, especially "Come Give Your Love To Me"

6. Dream Street (1984) - liked it, it was out when she was on Fame, I liked the title track and "Two to The Power of Love"

7. All For You (2001) - "Trust A Try" by far the best thing aside from the singles (Not including "Son of A Gun" with Carly Simon: ugh)

8. Damita Jo (2004) - listened to it all the way through just once

Default It is between Control and Rhythm Nation

I love both. But I cannot find her early albums, Janet Jackson and Dreamstreet. I go to Specs, but they don't have them.

You forgot one. What about Design of A Decade? Her hits from 1986-1996?

Please explain why I should count Design Of A Decade among her studio albums? It's a Greatest Hits cd. I don't know anyone who considers it the "followup" to janet. No... they consider Velvet Rope the followup to janet. GH cd's only count if you pull a Michael Jackson HIStory type of deal and release an entire disc of new songs.
