in this episode, lamont is wearing a ripped jacket. Was there a story behind that or was that just the style back then?

I just figured it was because they were relatively poor.

I was watching the episode, "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" and I saw Lamont's jacket ripped near the shoulder when he and Fred were in the kitchen discussing the fact that he should get married for the $7,000.
