Default Good Times sketch on Saturday Night Live

They did a Good times spoof on SNL since Janet Jackson was hosting. She played Penny, they had Kenan Thompson as Florida, Tracy Morgan as Bookman and Maya Rudolph played both Thelma and Willona. They also had JJ and Michael (no James). It was kind of funny, mostly just to see them spoofing the show as opposed to it being a funny sketch. It kinda looked like they had the actual Black Jesus painting in the sketch.

Well we know James wouldn't be on there because he wasn't on the show when Penny was added-LOL

OMG! That sketch had me rollin' it was so hilarious! They combined several episodes in one sketch. They had J.J. taking the rent money to buy 50 lottery tickets with. They had Bookman eating a bowl of chili & it turned out to be dog food! They had Willona with a black eye from where one her men had beaten her. Kenan Thompson played Florida and every time something went wrong he would get this funny look on his face & say Damn! Damn! Damn! Penny had a pet rat. This white guy named Mr. Whiteman told them that Michael was getting his scholarship taken away from him because he didn't return a library book about Malcolm X. At the end, J.J. announced that they had won the lottery, but Penny's rat had eaten all the lottery tickets. Then Penny's rat rolled over and died, and J.J. goes "I guess this isn't a good time for me to tell y'all that I have sickle cell!"
It was probably the best summary of Good Times in a time-frame of 10 minutes.LOL

it was so funny how theyd go from a joke -- to a serious moment -- and made it all funny.

That sketch had me in stitches. The guy who played Michael (Finesse Williams) really looked like him. He was kneeling behind the sofa for the whole sketch.

Kenan actually looked like Florida in that pink plaid pants suit.

Who was the guy who played JJ? At first I thought it was a white actor in makeup.

Janet surprised me all throughout SNL. I didn't know she could be funny like that. She was very natural in the sketch with the round the way folks buying the concert tickets. Kenan was funny in that one.

Is Tracy Morgan back on this show now that his sitcom got the axe? He wasn't billed in the opening, but he was heavily used in the sketches. He was bizarre in the animal planet sketch.

I'm assuming so, don't have any hard evidence. But he was on SNL in several skits and his name wasn't mentioned until the very end of the show.

Tracy Morgan hasn't returned to SNL, he just appears from time to time, as does Chris Kattan, another former regular. Tracy was on SNL a couple months ago when Al Sharpton hosted. The guy who played JJ in the Good Times sketch is named JB Smoove. He was a regular on "Cedric the Entertainer Presents" and in the movie "Pootie Tang".

Tracey Morgan's show has been all but axed. It was dumped on Saturdays, drew some of NBC's worst numbers ever, thenjust disappeared.

Janet completely shocked me on the show. She was so damned good! It was the perfect thing for her to do to win back the public. I am so in love with her right now!

The best was her impression of Condi Rice. The smile was dead on perfect and drop dead hilarious. Easily the best SNL of the season.

hey vashti,
jb smoove i thought he looked familiar. i didn't realize snl had enough black people in it to do a good times sketch. at first i thought one of the white actors had on makeup. they all looked and/or acted like the good times characters. kenan thompson is funny goofy to play women. he played star jones too.

I almost spit up my food when she did that Condolezza Rice impersonation in the opening! I hate that I miss that episode! Damn! Damn! Damn!

It would have been a nice touch if they had show a iron mark on her back! Ha Ha!

Maybe the sickle cell joke was a crack at how skinny JJ was.
