Default Dating dilemma's for the old folk ;-)

So here I am, nearing my mid 30's. I've got a 9 year old daughter, I've never been married, I've been on about...5 dates since my kid was born. Now all of a sudden I've got this potential date thrown in my face with this very nice guy I know. We've talked on the phone a few times and have made plans to go out at some point...but I'm so out of the loop! I don't want to be chasing this guy around like a kid in high school but it's been a long time since anyone has shown any interest in me. I've lost over 70 pounds since last spring and this is the first time I'll be able to wear nice clothes when I go out.

When you are an adult and 'date' are the rules different than when you are a teenager? I feel a little stupid - it's just been that long since I've been out!

On my left, I saw days upon days of lipstick and ticking clocks, dirty looks and quiet whisperings. And burning secrets that just won't ever die away. And on my right, what could I picture? The blue sky, the desert earth, stretching out into the eerie infinity. A beautiful never-ending nothing.

i'd say that theyre different, but then i've never known what the rules were in the first place

good for you - maybe it will develop into something, maybe you'll just be friends, however it turns out, just be casual and have fun

My gosh! I haven't dated since since I was 17! I have been with the same guy (I married in 1968) ever since! I really hope that you can find a nice guy to share your life with. I am a big champion of marriage. But I guess I can't really relate to your life. I have been married all my life practically! My daughter, who is 34,just celebrated her 13th wedding anniversary so there is hope there! I don't know if you are ready for marriage or whatever but I just wanted to tell you that a long happy relationship is possible! I guess I just want to tell you that I wish you all the happiness that I can! Good luck!

My daughter's "father" did a good one on me and I've been very hesitant to date at all. I want to have the whole happy family thing but I also need some adult conversation. My kid is in school all day and I work with kids all night long - I miss the adult companionship thing. I have to get over that hurdle of fearing the whole 'relationship' thing. I dont know how this is going to work out. He's called me a few times, made a few comments that I took as something positive but I'm afraid to even look forward to anything, even just going out, because I'm so accustomed to things crashing down around me. Does that make sense? So in the meantime my mind works overtime wondering how all of this is going to go...do I call, don't I call, do I say hi or anything more? How much do I say or not say, how much do I reveal or not reveal...it makes my head hurt thinking about it.

That's what I'm worried about. I've had so little experience in this that I have NO IDEA how to do things. It freaks me out and I dont want that to come across.

The rules haven't changed one bit when it comes to dating.

You women still drive us to drink.

just take it easy and go have fun, you may even want to tell him you're nervous because you haven't dated in awhile, better yet, follow tom's advice and just get the guy drunk...

If there are any, I'd never know. No one is ever interested in me when I'm interested in them.

But good luck! Maybe this guy will be one of the few really nice ones in the world.

Heh!

He just called me and we talked for over an hour - lots of stuff.

I'm so excited - trying to contain. He said he'll call again on Sunday so I have to just hang on till he does. We seem to have some stuff in common, same sense of humor and stuff.

Dont know where it will go but I'm hoping it goes at least to a date or two

I'm only 16, so I can't help you out much with the dating thing...but I really wanted to say congradulations on losing 70lbs!! That's quite an accomplishment. Keep up the good work!
