Wasn't Fungirl, the young girl in the wheelchair, his daughter? I remember reading that on another site.
Also, he was a pretty funny impersonator. I can when they were raising money for Wanda, he impersonated Ed Sullivan and Wolfman Jack. Funny thing is, What's happeneing had the real thing when he appeared in the Rockers episode. I wonder why GT couldn't get him? I also read where he was on a show called Laugh-In or something to the effect. I can remember his wife being in "Which way is up"? How did y'all like his character? |

Believe it or not Johnny Brown who played "Bookman," was a stand up comedian back in the late 60's, and if I'm not mistaken did appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. He also made appearances on Laugh In as did a lot of other young entertainers starting out in the business.

Hey jrnygrl
You're right. Johnny Brown (aka Bookman) was on Laugh-In in the early 1970s. I didn't mind him on Good Times. His wife was a really ugly and obnoxious individual though and ran him into the ground with her attitude. Really explains why he overcompensated by trying to boss the tenants around. |

Yeah Johnny Brown's been around for years!!! It's nice to see he's still around! I believe at one point in his career he had a alcohol problem.

Johnny Brown, who played Bookman, was interviewed on the E Good Times special. He seemed like one of the most down-to-earth actors I've ever seen. He was talking about how rewarding his experiences on Good Times were and how lucky he was to have been a part of the show. He just seemed so layed back and genuine. Real nice guy.

this past weekend, I recently saw The Rent Party, the very last episode with John Amos. I was quite impressed with his impressions of the other stars. He is a real talent. I loved his Wolfman Jack. |

The things that Bookman did on stage in the episode Rent Party is the things he did on the Flip Wilson Show before Good Times was on CBS |
