Default Jack, possibility living as a straight man

while roper would have never aloud it, in my opinion, i believe furley would have. after watching the love lesson, towards the end, the girls bring up furley to talk things out with jack, to see if something could be worked out. of course jack was with another woman (or "man" to furley), and it cleaned the slate.

however, had jack NOT been with another person at that time, and knowing that ol R.F. is a softy at heart (the episode paradise lost comes to mind) i think he would have approved of jack's living with two women and actually LIE to bart.

of course the show couldn't do this for i guess plot reasons.

the one thing i always got mad about was the touching episode baby it's cold inside jack could have easily lived as a straight man after that heart to heart. however the writers changed it so that furley thought he was delirious.

my theory however, and this is as a core fan looking in and overanalyzing, heh, is that furley didn't want to come to grasp with what he would have to do if jack was straight, so he decided to turn a deaf ear, to be ignorant on purpose.

please tell me what you guys think.

I think Chrissy's Hospitality showed that Furley would've let Jack stay knowing that he was straight, but I guess the producer thought they would lose ratings

and i think they probably were right. i think three's company was geared at having a framework for comedy each show rather than a developing plot show to show.

some of my fav 3C moments are the emotional ones. : )

The gay thing started to get old after a while. It wouldn't have hurt if Mr. Furley knew the truth.

bottom line in the real world the vast amount of people that jack and roper/furley knew together...be it neighbors, tenents, regal begal, angelino's, etc.....somewhere along the line someone would have spilled the beans on jack that he wasnt gay. i'm sure roper and furley joked about it to many, many, that he was gay...so keith your right it got old after a while and the should have set the record straight----ha ha....................i always thought the perfect ending should have been that furley would have told jack that he and roper knew for years that jack pulled the wool on them, and they just played along for either leverage(like not paying the rent) or just so he could raz him about it.

bill that is genius. i often felt that the last season had SO much potential to really wrap things up, and give it a proper ending, and i feel robbed when i look back on what we got. examples being furley/jack angle, and even the jack and janet angle.

now here is a question, would you forfeit a three's a crowd season for a "give the fans what they want" ending.. or would you have rather the TAC show run it's course having one more season of jack.

personally i would have liked to see the split ends tied..

keith i felt TAC missed its mark for an ending. to run a character for 9 years-jack tripper- and just cancel the show was dumb. but you have to look at the mentality 20 years ago....rattings fair to poor, get rid of it. i thought it should have been given one more year, and let the writing reflect that by tying up loose ends. the only shows i can think of that got finality to them were MASH and
happy days. most people think suzanne somers cut her own throat...wrong, it was the network being cheap. she was a renigade when you think about it for todays shows--ala friends and seinfeld were the entire cast negociated big bucks for themselves. the only think she did wrong was trying to get the $ on her own....instead of joing in w/ritter and dewitt. if three's company were in 2004-the top rated show , you would see the same $ being thrown at them as friends. i think the producers could have used suzanne as at rattings trump card, but were too stuborn and had no forsight thinking. i cant understand with all the power john ritter had , you would think he want a proper sendoff for his show and character. like i said fast forward 20 years to today, i think for a ratings smash you would have seen jack marry chrissy-the witty x mass snow from seasons one and two.

I definently think that Furley would've let him stay as a straight man because in the episode Snow Job,Furley said he would kick Jack out if he & Lana had something going on

yea, TC deserved more than what it got. i would have loved to have seen a wrap up season.. but even at the point of TAC it would have seemed like an additional two chapters "after the fact" that they all left wouldn’t feel natural.. however, as a fan, i think "sure, the more the better". ; )

you make a good point about suzanne/TC in 2004. The money scene may have been diff.

Chrissy coming back would no doubt bring in some ratings, but as a writer, i'd feel guilty doing that. maybe i'm bias (which i am!) but i think that Jack and Janet would have been a great write off. Sure bring Chrissy back, and have some ‘awkward moment’ jokes with her and Terri, but.. i can't help but feel that it would flow better if Janet and Jack got back together. Chrissy would have been one more awkward questionable jump, she's back and all the sudden Jack realizes he loves her? I am not dismissing your idea, which would no doubt grab the ratings. However from my heart, I wouldn’t feel right with that.

Tying Jack and Janet into the Furley scenario, even if Furley didn't know Jack was straight, would be plausible if they got together after all these years. Perhaps in some sorta symbolism, Jack saw the error of his "ways" (with men to Furley and floosy women to Janet) and therefore being a couple they moved out, however this time, on there own will.

Perhaps this would leave a Larry/Chrissy or Larry/Terri (I’d like a Larry Terri because Terri would whip him into shape). To the now vacant apartment, and a whole new slew of troubles TC would cutely leave you with. Plus it makes it easier for the two to guest star in TAC.

This either leaves Chrissy with Larry or simply Chrisst brings a ratings shot in, on a farewell guest appearance.

all hypothetical though my man, tell me what you think

Jack Hammer, I think there was probably a couple of scenes we are not thinking of that Furley would have aloud it. That’s definitely another possibility.

jack and janet marriage would have been an excellent ending. this would have connected the last two remaining stars from the original show full circle. terri was always the wild card, but i never felt "love" connection for both characters. the worst possible senerio was to bond larry with any of the girls. the guy was a baffoon (character wise, good for the show) and it would have been very bad mix with any of the girls. none of them found chemistry with larry for all those years, so why in the end??? wouldnt make sense. larry was always desinted to be a bachlor. here's poss ending for 3's a crowd....jack married vicky last show....everyone is there this time, from the two bartenders, greedy gretchen, lana, rev snow/wife, jacks parents, janets parents, etc. it would be a montoge of everyone who played a role in their lives, not ness have speaking lines, but just too have a special reuion and farewell to not only the show but the fans as well. jack and janet mention to each other they both bought part of a duplex/town house recently and cant wait to mait neighbors. well you guested it they both move in on the same day.....jack and janet together again, with a stunned look on their faces when they see each other....now thats full circle.

I never saw the ending to Threes Company , but I heard about it. The whole thing with Terri leaving , Jack w/ Vicky , Janet w/ Phillip was all wrong. Like someone said earlier , they shouldve had the finale with the people who were really in their lives. Like Lana visiting, Cindy visiting , Chrissy coming back in a way that wouldnt seem phony , the Ropers visiting , something similar to that. The Vicky and Phillip thing was all wrong. Jack and Janet shouldve gotten together , definitely. They were the 2 main characters of the show , and by what .. 8 years? .. they shouldve felt something for each other. There were so many moments and episodes between them that you could just see it ( Ropers Niece , A Night to Remember , She Loves Me , She Loves Me Not ) Mate For Each Other was also another one. I mean , in the beginning of the ep. , that couple came to visit , and the man said to Jack that you just put in what you want and thats exactly what you get. Well , Jack put in Janets description and Janet put in Jacks description , so it was fate! Okay , sorry I`m rambling lol , but thats what I think!

Janet and Jack?? Even the writers knew that two people being platonic friends for 8 years would have never lead to a romantic relationship. Which is why they never gave a janet/jack hook up any thought.
