Magnum mum went after son

A FURIOUS mum stormed into a pub wielding a Dirty Harry Magnum pistol - to haul her son out for his Sunday dinner.

Pulling the replica .44 Desert Eagle handgun from her waistband, 5ft 5ins Paula Williams shouted at terrified drinkers: "I'm going to kill him!"

When she realised son Gareth, 18, was not there she stormed off to confront him at her parents' home where she was later arrested by armed police.

Yesterday Williams, 37, was jailed for two years. Factory worker Gareth was shocked. He said later: "I don't think she'd have harmed me. Mum has a short fuse but she's got a heart of gold.

"I've been living with my grandparents, but mum wants me to move back in with her. She kept going on about me going for Sunday lunch and I finally agreed. She does a good roast. But on the day I changed my mind because I knew all she'd do through the meal was try to get me to move back in."

Gareth was at his grandparents' home in Nantyglo, Gwent, when he received a frantic call from his uncle who saw Williams burst into the pub. He said: "My uncle warned 'Lock your windows and doors, your mum is coming after you with a gun'. I was a bit worried but didn't think I needed to barricade myself in.

"When mum arrived she said she'd been looking for me because I didn't turn up for dinner and told me she'd pulled a gun out at the pub. I didn't believe her. Then she took this silver pistol from her waistband. I don't know where she got it and didn't ask."

The Golden Lion pub in Nantyglo was packed with youngsters playing in a pool tournament when seven stone Williams burst in brandishing the firearm made famous by Clint Eastwood in the 1971 movie Dirty Harry.

Prosecutor Leighton Hughes told Cardiff crown court: "Williams drew the gun, held it for several minutes and said 'I'm going to kill him'. She then went to her parents' home.

"She told the police she'd been drinking and had meant it as a joke. She now accepts it was an act of quite enormous stupidity."

Williams, of Nantyglo, admitted possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

Judge John Griffith Williams told her: "Possessing an imitation firearm will not be tolerated. It is a matter of real concern to the public and calls for a deterrent sentence."

The story is kind of funny but the lady still should be punished. That gun could have gone of accidently in that pub and killed some innocent bystander. You can never be too careful around guns.

Oh totally I completely agree the woman needs to face the law. I just did find it funny in a childish kinda way. I have weird humour, prolly from being a Brit.
