You know I had often wondered the same thing since they are so much a part of things. I am not sure of this, but I think that the actors whose names appear in the main titles of a show are the ones who are entitled to residual money from the syndicated reruns. To keep costs down they don't bill people. In Cheers there were characters like Frasier and Lillith and Cliff who weren't billed in the opening until long after they had been on the show. Lilith was around for like 5 years before they gave her credit in the opening.

It's funny though on some shows some of the people whose names appear in the main titles are in the show a lot less than others who aren't.

I also thought it was unfair that Glenn Quinn was on the show longer than Johnny Galecki but he was always listed behind him in the closing credits. And the kids were listed alphabetically at first but near the end Sara Gilbert was listed before Fishman and Goranson/Chalke.

Maybe Johnny Galecki was first because it was in alphebitical order?

And I think Sara Gilber was shown first in the credits before Michael or Sarah Chalke because she was in it more than they were.

When Sara Gilbert was in the 4th season I think, she wanted her new contract to state that she was to be billed before the other two children.

Johnny Galecki was billed before Glenn Quinn just because Galecki was used alot more.

well, to be fair, David got much more screen time in the last 4 seasons than Mark did. Mark mostly was there for comic relief after he came back with Becky #2, David had a lot of storyline arcs revolved around him, I was shocked he never got in the opening credits personally

I agree, once Becky eloped and the show moved on, it much more became about Darlene than it ever was about Becky, even after Becky came back, Darlene still had more screen time.

I have to agree with you guys:I've always wondered myself why they never got on the opening credits, because,if you think about it,Mark and David were on the show for about 6 or 7 seasons, and Crystal was only in like,2,and she got in the credits, and she was hardly in the episodes as it was!!That always confused me...but jamesanthony is probably right,at least that's the only reason I could think would be logical...

Well in all fairness Crystal was in the early ones but she wasn't credited. As in it didn't show her name like it did the others. She was just there. I think the reason that David and Mark weren't credited in the opening scenes is that they weren't considered primary characters. The primary characters are the ones that the show started out with. Which is why Becky is still there but she isn't in as many episodes as when Lecy played her.

I think the Galecki-Quinn thing was alphabetical.

IMO Mark and David should have been credited in the intro throughout seasons 6-9 cause they actually appeared in more episodes than Darlene and Becky.

I imagine it was more of a continuity issue than anything else.

I think it would be stupid for Mark and David to be in the theme.
