Just found this board and think it's great!
Reading about these old shows brings back lots of memories. I remember a show from the late 70's - early 80's, I think it was, and have found absolutely nothing about it online. It wasn't ever a series I don't think. I really only remember one episode, and I thought it was really funny, couldn't wait for the next one, but it never happened! The show was called either "The Ugily's" or "The Ugily Family" The family was italian and their name was always being pronounced as "Ugly", but they would correct it and say, "YOU-GEE-LEE". Al Molinaro played the father, and the daughter was played by Winifred Freedman, but I found no mention of it on either the Happy Days page, nor the Joanie Loves Chachi page. No mention of the show on either of their imdb pages either. I really liked this show because it didn't parade a bunch of "beautiful" people, rather, the actors, while still attractive, were more typical of people you'd meet in real life. Somebody please tell me I'm not the only person who remembers this show!! and again - great board! |

You are correct, there was a pilot produced for a sitcom entitled The Ugily Family. Al Molinaro did indeed star as the father but I can't say for certain if Winifred Freedman was in it. If you can recall the show I'm willing to believe that she was. The running joke in the series, of course, was the mispronouncation of the family name.
I don't know when it aired but I assume that either it was broadcast once to see if there was any interest or, and this is more likely, the pilot was never picked up an a network simply aired it during the summer repeat season to burn it off. |
