Hi. Does anyone know the name and singer of a background song (not a Bandstand song) about a soldier that was included in the season finale? It was a beautiful song and the lyrics appeared to provide perspectives from different soldiers from different countries in different wars (e.g., I' fighting for...France...the U.S.A...the Reds....). Unfortunately, I don't see it listed on any of the American Dreams websites and, since I didn't tape the episode, I can't recall the lyrics very accurately. If nothing else, can anyone who taped the episode provide me with some more accurate lyrics I can use in trying to track the song down? Thanks!

Found it myself! It's "Universal Soldier" by Donovan, from his 1965 "Fairytale" album. Here's the first stanza:
He's five feet two and he's six feet four He fights with missiles and with spears He's all of 31 and he's only 17 He's been a soldier for a thousand years For those who may be interested, go here to read the rest of the lyrics: http://www.solcomhouse.com/universalsoldier.htm |
