Was the episode of Fred pulling off Aunt Esther's wig in season 4 planned? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In the episode of season 4 called There'll Will Be Some Change Made,it was towards the end where Aunt Esther was vaccuming. Fred pulls her wig off. I was wondering was that suppose to happen? After that happened Lamont was laughing as hard as he could. That let me to believe that it was unplanned. Does anyone know?

I suspect the whole thing was spontaneous...the director probably asked Redd and La Wanda to ad-lib an ending, and judging from La Wanda's (and Demond's) reaction, Redd took the ad-libbing to a different...and funnier...level (and I've never seen anyone laugh so hard on camera the way Demond did in that scene...it made what was otherwise a somewhat mediocre episode a comedy classic!)

TV Land butchers my favorite scene in that episode (and of my all time S&S favorites). Fred comes downstairs and everyone is "getting in touch" and Fred gets a baseball bat. I love it! I also liked when Fred ask the afroed man to take off his hat.

Hey all,
I have another question on ad-libbing. In the episode The Surprise Party, Fred starts to rip Rollo. He says one joke then says"You want more?" "Bing Bang Zoom...Somebody get this Ni**er out of my room!" and the whole cast began cracking up. I would think if that was planned the cast would have given the typical disgusted look or the thats typical Fred and NOT a hilarious cracking up laughter. Has anyone else noticed that scene and felt it was a spontaneous thing? I still laugh when I see that scene.

Rollo was great!

Getting back to the episode."There'll Be Some Changes Made",Fred and Aunt Esther really got into it when she comes in with her homemade preserves and Fred tells her don't put that up to your face because we sure don't want to preserve that and when Esther asks Fred where to put the preserves and he gives her a dirty look and tells him, "Watch it, this is for Lamont"

And Fred's quote,"What's his is his and what's mine is mine,but I say that's wrong,it's what mine is mine and what's his is mine,so mind your own business."
