Lost episodes - which is better quality?

out of these two which is better for quality

1."the lost episodes" on dvd

2."the lost episodes" taped off tv

the reason that i ask this is that normally dvd is far superior but i have read that the quality of these dvds isn't very good (is that because of the original prints that jackie had?) and i thought that the televison company/companies involved in their syndication may have done a better job of looking after them if anybody could clear this up it would be very much appreciated

The quality of the DVD's is far better than recording them off of TV. What you might be thinking of is the unfair comparison of the Classic 39 on DVD, and the Lost Episodes on DVD. The Lost Episodes look inferior to the C-39 mainly because they are kinescopes of live broadcasts and the C-39 were shot using 35mm motion picture cameras, which have a far better look when finished. The crude 16mm recordings made during those live years (kinescopes) were necessary since they had to show the west coast the program 3 hours later, and since tape hadn't been invented yet (or ready to use) it was the only way of recording a TV show.

WPIX is showing "The Lost Episodes", the one that it was shot on 16mm kinescope cameras used during the mid-50's. The "Classic 39" episodes that is still airing on Sundays was shot on standard 35mm movie cameras. The C39 DVD's are great than the "Lost Episodes". Oh, by the way, the "Color Honeymooners" was shot on video tape since it was taped in Miami back in the late 60's.
