Default question on season 4

hi all....my question is about the ending to season 3 and the beginning of season 4. At the end of season 3, we know that Fred is away in St. Louis and that Grady is taking over. Then the next season starts and Grady is still running the house. But, after 3 episodes in season 4, Fred is back with no mention of anything. Then on episode 9 of season 4 is The Surprise Party where Fred returns. I thought these DVD's were in order as they appeared. Why didnt The Surprise Party air before the 4th episode of season 4 which was There'll Be Some Changes Made. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Well this is why I recommended that everyone watch the 4th season DVD in airdate order because of how the 4th season was set up. See the producers didn't know for sure if Redd Foxx was coming back so they started recotding 4th season eps before redd returned. So the episode Surprise Party was the 9th episode recorded and NBC aired that episode first since that episode dealt with his return. So back in 1974, the first episode Aired on NBC for the 4th season was Surprise Party and it did air before There Be Some Changes Made. So I can see how everything to you seems out of order on the DVD because all eps on DVD's are in production order not AIRDATE ORDER. Which is why I watch all my DVD's in airdate order and not the order they are on the DVD.

If you rent, Surprise Party isn`t on Disc 1. So you can`t watch in airdate order.

Surprise Party should have been watched first. But watching the 3Grady eps first and then Surprise Party is ok too.
