Default An alternative to the same old reruns

I was just reading the TV Land Canada website. Even though I don't get the channel, I do like the programs they offer, and I've noticed that they've come up with an idea which should be considered by other stations as an alternative to offering the same-old, same-old with regards to what they show and how often you get to see it.

What they're doing is simply rotating a group of shows and airing them every other month. In March of 2004, along with their regular group of shows that they've left unchanged, they've aired The Phil Silvers Show, The Odd Couple, Gomer Pyle, and Laverne and Shirley. For this month, those shows will be replaced in the rotation by My Three Sons, The Addams Family, the drama series The Millionaire, and Get Smart. Next month, the Odd Couple group will return while My Three Sons and its group will leave temporarily. I wonder if any US stations are doing something similar and, if not, do you think this is a good idea?

Maybe for a few shows and time slots, but it would drive me nuts to just have my show on for one month. I want my shows to go through an entire episode rotation before it gets taken off.

If only TV Land in the US would show "My Three Sons", "The Addams Family" and "The Millionaire".

I am, too. So many of my favorite shows are either on DVD or are coming out soon. It will beat syndication because the episodes are uncut (except for several Sanford and Son episodes on the DVD sets )

Agreed. TVLAND in the US (and other stations) need to learn to balance things out a little. They should show every episode of the shows they're airing but not oversaturate viewers.

This rotation/cycle deal seems ideally suited for short-lived shows, however. Simply air all the episodes of a few shows that didn't last very long for a month and then switch to some others.

If it would get rarer things on TV, I'm all for it.

I'd like that too. Maybe see some shows that were only on for a season or two, that never get played anymore. That would be great.
