Default Tanning Beds

http://205.147.231.56/pvn/cda/featur...-6997,00.html?

That's a link to an article in the latest issue of Prevention magazine. I read it in the actual copy since my dad has a subscription and thought it was interesting about Tanning Beds. I already knew about them causing cancer and being bad for you, but the part where the employees tell the woman that they are "good for you" is very sad!

So, does anyone here actually go tanning? I have never went tanning and never will. the closest I do is lay out in the real sun, but not very often because I just burn easily (I swear I was a redhead in a past life!) When I went to high school, so many girls would always go tanning all the time! I was just thinking do they know how bad that is for you? They just wanted to "look good" and have a "healthy tan" (that's like a total oxymoron!) Personally I'd rather be pale/lighter skinned and healther than have a dark tan and worry about my risks of getting skin cancer.

I actually go to them quite often, about once a week. I like to have a little color to my skin, and the heat relaxes me, too. I try not to stay more than 30 minutes a visit, and I hardly ever go more than 3 times a week. I don't go year round, either, usually just in the early spring.

Last time I actually tanned was 2001, I think. I had a tan that turned heads...but it was achieved through tanning outside for four solid hours on a hot July day, and I ended up getting sunburned in some areas...not fun...one of them was my left foot, and it HUUUURT. I don't recommend suntanning for 4 hours. I'll never do that again.

I would never go for tanning beds. My skin is too fair and as a child and teen, I got more than my fair share of the sun, I burned a lot, until I blistered. As it is now, I have a mole that I'm concerned about and I'm going to have it removed, in a few weeks.

I remember talking about tanning beds last year on here, and at that time I went a lot. I haven't gone since last summer though. I lost interest. I don't really think about the risks though, so I may go again someday.

My mom does, and I always yell at her for it and say she's gonna get skin cancer and she goes "Aw, my baby cares about me!" and then she went...

I'm actually pretty pale for being half Italian...they say being tan makes you look healthy, but it's really not healthy at all.

I've gone 5 or 6 times, for 10 or 15 minutes. I love having a tan, but getting cancer isn't really worth it. I figure that a few times can't kill you...just like a few cigarettes won't kill you. It's the getting addicted part that will. There are girls at my school who go everyday for 25 minutes. Can't even begin to imagine what their skin is going to look like when they're 60.

I would never use a tanning bed, my grammy died of skin cancer and my grandpapa's twin brother used to tan (i think he went to tanning beds) and anyways he got skin cancer and had huge golf ball size tumors b/c of it...and he died also.

NEVER will I EVER use a tanning booth. And also I have really really really REALLY dark brown hair and strangley pale skin and it looks really good together, it's turned heads, I've been asked if my hairs naturally that color.

I gave up sunning 10 years ago. As a result, I'm in my 40s, and I look like I'm in my 30s.

I don't smoke, drink or sunbathe.

My husband's ex-wife died from malignant melanoma two weeks ago at age 55. She was a sun worshipper all her life, and paid the price, the poor woman.

I'm very pale. In fact, if I go out in the sun and lift up my pants, my legs are so white that when the sunlight hits them it hurts my eyes to look at them. But I don't care. I'd rather be pale than waste my time lying in the sun or in a tanning bed ruining my skin. I hate the sun, so I avoid it at all costs. I have never been to a tanning bed.

I used to be friends with this stuck up bitch and her family has money. Well, she has her own tanning bed in her basement and she would tan every single day and she looked orange. She developed these little bumps on her skin and had to go get them scraped off by a doctor. Disgusting.

For those of you who want tan skin... why not just try bronzer? Seriously, just use some of that spray on tanning stuff. Sure, it may be fake, but it looks like you have a real tan and it is much safer than frying your skin cells under the sun or in a tanning bed.
