Alright! I probably had never seen that episode since I was a 4-year-old kid when it premiered. But I specifically remember seeing it then. It must have been well-promoted on television at that time, because we knew it was a show about a train that smoked and whistled, and a "little hotel..."
It's a good introduction of the characters, including the Cannonball as one of the main ones. You can see right away that Billlie Jo is a coy blonde, Bobbie Jo is homebody and bookworm, and Betty Jo is in love with the train; Kate is not worldly, but wise and efficient, and balanced by lazy and goofily high-minded Uncle Joe. You gotta wonder, though, if those girls did make a habit of taking their dresses off at the base of the water tower and climbing the ladder in their 'petticoats' (or whatever they wore underneath), then took those off and hung them on the rim to take a dip, that word would have gotten out and there would have been a few "spies" around. |
