The Buddy from the Powell seasons was funnier, though I'm not sure that really makes him better. Honestly, Buddy was never my favorite character on either version of the show. I'm not saying that I don't like him, but there are so many characters I like better:Charles, Lila, Jason, Sarah and Jamie would all be higher on my list than Buddy.

He was funny, no doubt about that. As far as him being the backbone of the show? I don't know. The show would not have been the same (or as funny) without him though. Really, Charles was the backbone of the show. I mean you could not have had Charles In Charge with out Charles .

I would have to say that it was the kids that kept the show together. That would make them the backbone of the show. I do understand what you are getting at with Buddy though, I really do. And I do respect your opinion. For me though, the show was never about Buddy. I like the guy and I think he is funny, but he was never what attracted me to the show. It was always about Charles and his relationship with the kids, be it Lila, Jason and Dougles or Jamie, Sarah and Adam. I always though that the funniest moments were between Charles and the his charges. Let me make an example, the episode "Ladies' Night Out", in which Jamie and Sarah try to sneak aout of the house to go to Club Dread. I pick this episode because it is, to me at least, the best Powell episode and the third best overall. Everything that is funny about the episode comes from how Jamie thinks she is going to out smart Charles and how he is on to her. Buddy was just along for the ride. The whole stuff about him attacking the police and Grampa with the toilet plunger is very funny, but overall it is how the girls think they can out smart Charles that makes the episode so funny. Of course, this is just my opinon.

1 if charles tried to face the kids a lone it would have been stupid, buddy made it more funny w/ all that prowler stuff and
2 the best charles in charge episode of all time was piece of cake, where charles has 3 tasks that he has to do before cmndr powell comes home...the whole episode everything goes wrong and its none stop laughs...piece of cake is the best episode

Talking Piece of Cake

I like the scene in "Piece of Cake" when Charles and Buddy tried to make Mr. Powell's favorite cake and really messed it up. That was great! That same thing actually happened to me once, so that makes the scene even funnier.

My five favorite episodes:

1. "Slumber Party" (season one)
Charles watches over Lila's slumber party.
2. "Extracurricular Activity" (season one)
The Pembroke kids persue new hobbies.
3. "Ladies' Night Out" (season four)
Jamie and Sarah try to sneak out of the house.
4. "American Teen" (season two)
Sarah writes an article about being a teenager.
5. "Weekend Weary" (season two)
Jamie oversees the "yard" sale while Charles "rests."

the series ending episode has to be one of the top 5...it was very sad for the cast, not to mention it was a good episode

It was a very good episode. I may not have had it in the top five, but I would certainly include it in the top ten. The ending was very touching.

I think it is safe to say that the Powell's Buddy is going to win. I voted for the Pembroke's Buddy. Oh well, I don't mind being the underdog!
