Default This is a cool site

Hi:

I'm new to these boards but in comparing this to jumptheshark this site is so much more positive. Here if you like a show you talk about what you like about it. If you don't like it you skip over it. On that other site people go on and on about what they hate about shows. In some cases you wonder why they take the time to rant about something that they think is trashy. If you don't like it, turn it off. Also, so many people post about a current show jumping off. To me it takes a little perspective to appreciate a show, that's why i don't fuss over not seeing most of the new programs that come on now. I figure if it has quality I can catch it in syndication where i can watch it on a regular timetable rather than have to be strung along soap opera style for 4-5 years of cliffhanger storylines. If it's a good show that gets shut down early, there are always videos or I can read about it.

Hi there! I have been a member here since 2001 and I agree it's fun to discuss my favorite sitcoms with other fans! But don't be fooled. There have been some very serious fights between members(I try not to get involved) But all in all it is a very cool site! Glad you found us!

Hey Penny:

I've read some of the fights that go on for like 20 or more posts and get totally off the original topic. There's one like that on Bewitched that I remember reading. But this site is better than jumptheshark because that site starts out with the premise that you're looking to find fault with a show. It's like, gee let me see, when did the show start to suck? Here even you think the show went to hell the posters seem to be more upbeat and spend less energy dwelling on the shows falling apart. Check out the other site if you haven't done so already to see what I mean.

Yeah on the Mama's Family thread we have been having fun pointing out bloopers that had occurred in this series but it is all in good fun! That's the difference right there don't you think? Jump the shark takes everything too seriously! I like just having fun with things .

As far as I'm concerned Mama never jumped the shark! I think all the Mama fans out there will agree!

Glad you like it...although trust me, you're bound to run into someone who will bitch at you for liking a show they don't or vice versa.

Penny Lane, you're right about JTS being too serious. As for Mama's family I was never a fan of that show so I can't say much about it.

JamesAnthony, when I first saw your name, I thought my father had found this site and joined it His first and middle names are James Anthony.

Anyhoo, welcome aboard! I've been a member since 2000 and this is one of the best message board sites I have ever come across. I like being able to discuss TV shows without having someone jump down my throat because I like their least favorite TV show or I hate their most favorite show or something.

So, what are your favorite sitcoms?

Oh Yeah? You're not a fan of Mama's Family?! This calls for drastic action!

Hi Kirsten:

I'm a big Get Smart nut. I can watch that show's episodes 12 time and still find things about it that are entertaining. I enjoy a lot of the African American shows but more the older ones like Jeffersons, Good Times, What's Happening, Parent Hood, Different World, Sanford and Son and Room 222 and Julia. All in the Family and One Day at A Time keep my interest. I like the look of the videotaped shows like the ones by Norman Lear that look like stage productions. I also like the look of the 60s shows that were produced in the same manner as the dramas like Get Smart which had lots of exterior scenes and don't have a claustrophobic indoors look.

My Three Sons is a show that is cute and quaint and uplifting. I also really liked Danny Thomas' old series from the 1950s and early 60s.
