Default Mr. Kotter's Apartment

Guys, I need your help. I have a visual of a sitcom in which the character lived in an apartment and the door had about 6 locks on it. Was that Mr. Kotter's apartment??? I remember there was a big to-do about going through all the locks when someone came to visit or leave. This is driving me crazy trying to remember what show that was. I hope you can help jog my memory.

Thanks!

I remember that too. I'm not sure if it was the Kotters' apartment or maybe someone on Rhoda (Rhoda, Brenda or maybe their parents?), but I can definitely picture it.

I remember an episode of The Bob Newhart Show when Carol had a recording of an attack dog that she turned on when someone came to the door -- and then she'd shout: "Down, Lobo! Down!" -- but I don't remember her having a lot of locks on the door as well.

Well, now this is going to drive me crazy, too. Thanks a LOT!

Now I'm going crazy trying to think of this too.

And was this an ongoing gag, or was it after someone was robbed? And was it a regular or guest star?

Here are some guesses:

Vera on Alice?
Somebody on Taxi- Latka?

I think it was definitely a quirky character.

This should be posted on the general sitcom board!

I do recall in the episode of Happy Days "Guess Who's Coming to Christmas" that Richie and Mr. C. go to Fonzie's apartment and he has a lot of locks. I think they return/ make him open the door at least 2 times.

Could this be it?

Default Mr. Kotter's Apartment

I'm sorry to drive any of you crazy now. I have been trying to figure this out since Sunday, so you know I'm dedicated to find the answer.

I had considered Rhoda as a possibility, but decided that wouldn't fit the bill since she lived in building with a doorman, the likelihood that she would need 6 locks on her door is not very high.

I'm thinking that this would have been a dicey neighborhood that would require 6 locks to keep out the dregs of society. My memory of this is almost limited to watching someone (I can't even say if it is a woman or a man) going through the motions of meticulously locking each lock and then having to go back and unlock them all.

I can't even tell you if it was specific to one episode or if it was a long running thing with the show. I'm sorry I'm not much help with any further details.

I will post this Q at the general sitcom board, though, to see if anyone else can tell us what show this belongs in.

Thanks to all!!!
