Hopes for Comeback - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This is one show I really would like to see on Nick at Nite. It is certainly a Neo-Classic. Canide Bergen is one really talented lady, and this show definitely gave her, her claim to fame. i have seen her in many shows and films. But this is what really does it for me. She deals with so many issues on this.
Does anyone know if there are any chances it will return to syndication? Why don't we start a petition?

I'm not the biggest fan of this show, but it's odd to me that a show that ran for 10 years in prime time isn't more popular in reruns. The politics of the show might have dated it. Maude seems to have suffered from the same problem. This show definitely has a Clintonesque political vibe to it and right now Bush is in the White House so maybe that's a factor. Also, I read somewhere that Candace Bergen said in an interview that she eventually came to agree with Gore's comments about the difficulties of single parenthood.

I didn't watch this when it came on in prime time, but I liked seeing a few reruns from the last year when Murphy Brown had breast cancer. I remember Lily Tomlin who I believe was brought in initially to stir up conflict now became all supportive and began calling her "sister". I remember the birthday party episode when they had the sock hop. That was well done although I think that the character would probably have been a wee young to have gone to a sock hop.

Well that show started when Bush Sr. was in the White House. Maybe when Kerry gets the house it will make a comeback, one can only hope. I thought the show was well done, I hated when Murphey got the cancer, that was real sad. I never saw the final season episodes on CBS. There are a lot to catch up with.

I always found the political tone of this show too strident like they were trying to force feed an agenda down my throat so it was never my cup of tea, but the few shows I saw from the last season when she had cancer showed that Candace Bergen could believably play drama within a comedy context.

I think she is a very versatile actor. It was quite funny seeing her as the villian in Miss Congeniality, while in another tone she played in SAND PEBBLES with Steve McQueen.

I agreed with the political views for the most part in Murphy Brown. I am by no means a Bush fan. As for the agenda stuff, Murphey played an agressive reporter and she was supposed to be the hard hitting interviewing reporter. that was the basis for the show, if they didn't have that, there would be no conflict for her character, other than with the other actors. It was a satire about being in the news business.

I'm no Bush fan myself, but i guess someone must be because he's in office. Anyhow, this show has had a strangely low profile in comparison to Designing Women or the Golden Girls which are older but still play a lot on cable and i'm guessing it's because it was a show that was very political, but unlike something like All in the Family, Murphy brown wasn't a family person and so it has a cold biting sort of feel to it. In Designing Women there were sweet characters like Charlene and her sister as a balance to Julia who was more aggressive in voicing her politics. Delta Burke was an apolitical rich princess type so she was also there to contrast with Julia, but in Murphy Brown the political voicing wasn't muted by these types of costars.

I only remember the cancer storyline because she was more vulnerable there and more sympathetic. In the earlier shows she was always hysterical and pushy which I think are traits that are hard to take in repeated viewings. Most people seem to tune in to old sitcoms to feel warm and fuzzy and reassured and Murphy Brown was the exact antithesis of that with her nervous energy and bite.

Yeah she wasn't exactly miss Sally Sweet was she? LOL! Neither was Maude.
Murphy was however sympathetic when Phil died. The bar tender and her went way back.
I love the Golden girls, and I will watch Designing Women, I like Charlene and the other one, Delta, Anthony and The old lady, what's her name,? Alice Ghostly played her. Charlene almost reminds me of a heavier, older Lisa Kudrow. The scatterbrained ones always get me, very lovable to watch. Like Lucy.

I remember an episode of Designing Women where Delta Burke said "there's nothing to watch on TV. Only the news and I saw that yesterday" LOL
